Stabilizer Bar

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figure 1

  1. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts. Raise the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack and support the body with safety stands. Remove the rear wheels.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nut, retainer and cushion that connects the No. 1 suspension arm to the stabilizer bar.
  4.  
  5. On some vehicles, it may be necessary to support the fuel tank and remove the tank band from the body.

  1. Disconnect the stabilizer bar from the body by removing the bolts. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle with bushings and brackets. If the bushings appear to be worn or cracked, replace them.
  2.  

To install:
  1. Temporarily connect the stabilizer bar to the body with the bushings, brackets and bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the stabilizer bar links to the No. 1 suspension arm with the retainers, cushions and nuts. Tighten the center bracket bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm). Tighten the stabilizer-to-body bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm) and the stabilizer link to stabilizer bar bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rear wheels and remove the safety stands.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle and bounce the rear end a few to times to allow the rear suspension to stabilize.
  8.  
  9. Have the rear wheel alignment checked.
