REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Except 1988-89 4WD Models

CAUTION
On vehicles equipped with an air bag system, work must be started at least 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the lock position and the negative battery cable is disconnected.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Label and disconnect the electrical connectors.
  2.
  3. Remove the fluid in the brake actuator with a suitable syringe.
  4.
  5. Remove the power steering reservoir as required.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the brake actuator. Plug the ends of the lines to prevent loss of fluid.
  8.
  9. Detach the hydraulic fluid pressure differential switch wiring connectors.
  10.
  11. Loosen the brake actuator reservoir mounting nuts.
  12.
  13. Unfasten the nuts and remove the ABS actuator assembly.
  14.

To install:

  1. Before tightening the mounting nuts or bolts, screw the hydraulic line into the cylinder body a few turns.
  2.
  3. Install the actuator, making sure the motor ground wire is between the plate washer and spring washer before installing the front right side nut. Torque the nuts to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm). Torque the hydraulic lines to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  4.
  5. Install the power steering reservoir as required.
  6.
  7. After installation is completed, fill the brake reservoir and bleed the brake system.
  8.
  9. Turn the ignition switch On and check that the dashboard warning lamp (ABS or antilock) comes on for 3-4 seconds, indicating a normal condition.
