REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Except 1988-89 4WD Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2.  
  3. On 1988-89 models, remove the right side dash undercover. On other models, remove the luggage compartment finish panel.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the control unit electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fasteners retaining the ABS ECU bracket, if equipped, then remove the control unit.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the control unit and secure in position.
  2.  
  3. Connect the control unit electrical connectors.
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch On and check that the dashboard warning lamp (ABS or antilock) comes on for 3-4 seconds, indicating a normal condition.

1988-89 4WD Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 3 bolts and ground terminal.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the connector, remove the 3 bolts, then remove the ABS ECU.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts and the deceleration sensor.
  8.  


CAUTION
Do not drive the vehicle without the control unit or deceleration sensor properly installed in the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the deceleration sensor and torque the deceleration sensor bolts to 28 inch lbs. (3.2 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the ECU and tighten the computer-to-bracket bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rear seat cushion. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch On and check that the dashboard warning lamp (ABS or antilock) comes on for 3-4 seconds, indicating a normal condition.
