CAUTION
On models with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds from the time that the ignition switch is turned to the lock position and the battery is disconnected before performing any further work.

Vacuum-Type Actuator
RESISTANCE
  1. Disconnect the connector from the actuator lead wire.
  2.  
  3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 3. The resistance should be approximately 68 ohms. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the actuator.
  4.  
  5. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3. The resistance should be approximately 30 ohms. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the actuator.
  6.  

OPERATION
  1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminals 1 and 2. Connect the negative (-) lead to terminal 3.
  2.  
  3. Slowly apply vacuum from 0-300mm Hg (0-40 kpa), and check that the control cable can be pulled smoothly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect terminal 1 or 2 and check that the control cable returns to its original position and the vacuum returns to 0 mmHg (0 kpa).
  6.  
  7. If operation is not as described, replace the actuator.
  8.

Motor-Type
MAGNET CLUTCH
  1. Check that the arm moves freely by hand.
  2.  
  3. Turn the magnet clutch On :
    1. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 5 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 4.
    2.  
    3. Check that the arm does not move by hand.
    4.  

  4.  
  5. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor.
  6.  

MOTOR
  1. With the magnet clutch on, connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 6 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 7 and check that the arm moves to the open side.
  2.  
  3. When the arm reaches to the open position, check that the motor operation stops.
  4.  
  5. With the magnet clutch on, connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 7 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 6 and check that the arm moves to the close side.
  6.  
  7. When the arm reaches to the close position, check that the motor operation stops.
  8.  

POSITION SENSOR
  1. Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 3. The resistance should be approximately 2,000 ohms.
  2.  
  3. When the arm is moving from the closed to open position, check that resistance between terminals 2 and 3 increases from approximately 500 to 1,700 ohms.
  4.  
  5. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor.
  6.
