REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




CAUTION
On models with an air bag, wait at least 30 seconds from the time that the ignition switch is turned to the lock position and the battery is disconnected before performing any further work.

1986-89 Vehicles
  1. Remove headlining from the vehicle as follows:
    1. Open the sliding rood halfway.
    2.  
    3. Remove the clips on the front part of the headlining.
    4.  
    5. Slide the headlining forward, and pull it off in an upward direction to remove.
    6.

  3. Using switch, tilt position down fully.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect battery cable from negative terminal.
  6.  
  7. Remove switch cover by removing the screw and the front portion of the cover out. Disengage the two catches and remove.
  8.  
  9. Remove control switch.
  10.  
  11. Remove drive motor by removing the roof headlining and drive motor installation bolts. Disconnect the drive motor connectors.
  12.  
  13. Remove sliding roof, applying adhesive tape to protect the body. Remove the 6 sliding roof installation bolts and sliding roof.
  14.  
  15. Remove roof drip channel.
  16.  
  17. Slide drive cable rearward and remove wind deflector.
  18.  
  19. Remove 2 guide rail covers.
  20.  
  21. Remove cable guide casing assembly:
    1. Slide the drive cable forward and remove 6 set screws.
    2.  
    3. Apply adhesive tape to protect the body.
    4.  
    5. While pushing down on the center of the casing, pull the cable guide casing assembly off in an upward direction to remove.
    6.

To install:

  1. Install cable guide casing assembly onto roof:
    1. Insert a pin like subject into the base hole, align it with the link position, and set the roof in the tilt fully closed position.
    2.  
    3. While pushing down on the center of the casing, insert the cable guide casing assembly from the front of the roof.
    4.  
    5. Install 6 set screws.
    6.

  3. Install roof drip channel.
  4.  
  5. Install sliding roof panel.
  6.  


WARNING
Install the same number of shims that were disassembled.

  1. Install drive motor:
    1. When operating the drive gear, use the control switch and be sure the cam is set at the closed position as shown.
    2.  
    3. Install the drive motor to the roof.
    4.  
    5. Install the control switch and switch cover.
    6.

  3. Install guide rail covers, using the switch to fully open the sliding roof. Install the guide rail covers with the set screws.
  4.  
  5. Install wind deflector, tightening screw A and then screw B.
  6.  
  7. Adjust sliding roof operation.
  8.  
  9. Install headlining:
    1. Open the sliding roof halfway.
    2.  
    3. Insert the headlining from the front portion of the roof, and then insert the sun shade lock spring case into the show link.
    4.  
    5. Tap the headlining clips into the sliding roof panel.
    6.

1990-93 Vehicles
  1. Tilt up sliding roof panel.
  2.  
  3. Slide sliding roof headlining.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect battery cable from negative.
  6.  
  7. Remove map light, removing the screws for the map light cover and the map light then disconnecting the connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove following parts: Assist grip; front pillar garnish by removing the clips by your hand, then pulling out the garnish from the roof side inner garnish; sun visor and holder; inner rear view mirror; opening trim molding.
  10.  
  11. Remove drive motor, pushing down the front side of roof headlining. Disconnect the drive motor connectors. Remove 3 bolts and drive motor.
  12.  
  13. Remove sliding roof panel by removing the 6 sliding roof installation nuts and shims and pulling the panel upward to remove it.
  14.  
  15. Remove roof drip channel by removing 2 screws and pulling the channel forward to remove it.
  16.  
  17. Remove wind deflector by sliding the drive cable rearward and removing 4 screws and the deflector.
  18.  
  19. Remove cable guide casing assembly.
    1. Slide the drive cable forward and remove the 8 set screws.
    2.  
    3. Apply adhesive tape to protect the body.
    4.  
    5. Pull the cable guide casing assembly off in forward direction.
    6.

To install:

  1. Install cable guide casing assembly onto roof:
    1. While pushing down on the center of the casing, insert the cable guide casing assembly from the front of the roof.
    2.  
    3. Install eight set screws.
    4.  
    5. Align the alignment marks.
    6.

  3. Install roof drip channel.
  4.  
  5. Install sliding roof panel, installing the same number of shims that were disassembled.
  6.  
  7. Install drive motor:
    1. Remove the screw and cam plate cover.
    2.  
    3. Loosen the large screw at the back side of drive shaft, then turn the drive shaft by hand to align the housing and gear point mark.
    4.  
    5. Install the screw and cam plate cover.
    6.  
    7. Install the drive motor to the roof.
    8.  
    9. Connect the drive motor connectors.
    10.  
    11. Install the front side of the roof headlining.
    12.

  9. Install wind deflector with set screws.
  10.  
  11. Slide sliding roof headlining forward:
    1. Open the headlining.
    2.  
    3. Slide the sliding roof panel backward to install the headlining to the panel.
    4.  

  12.  
  13. Install the assist grip, front pillar garnish, sun visor and holder, inner rear view mirror and opening trim molding.
  14.  
  15. Install map light and map light cover.
  16.  
  17. Connect battery cable to negative terminal.
  18.
