Front Drive Axle

Print

The front differential on 1986-89 models with automatic transaxle is a separate fluid unit from the rest of the transaxle. It must be checked separately and filled separately.

FLUID RECOMMENDATIONS

The differential of the automatic transaxle on the Celica uses DEXRON® II ATF.

FLUID LEVEL CHECK

Check the differential in the same manner as checking the manual transaxle fluid level. There is no dipstick. Remove the fill plug and check that the level is at the bottom of the threaded hole. If the level is too low, add fluid until it starts to run out the hole. After filling, reinstall the fill plug.

DRAIN AND REFILL

Remove the front differential drain plug and drain the fluid in a suitable container. Reinstall the plug and add the appropriate amount of fluid.
