Front Hub and Bearing

REPLACEMENT



  1. Clamp the knuckle in a vise with protected jaws.
  2.  
  3. Remove the dust deflector, if equipped. Loosen the nut holding the ball joint to the knuckle. Use a ball joint separator tool or equivalent to loosen and remove the joint.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner oil seal.
  6.  
  7. Remove the snapring. Remove the dust cover.
  8.  
  9. Using a hub puller, pull the axle hub from the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the inner bearing race from the bearing. Remove the ABS tone ring, if equipped. Remove the outer race.
  12.  
  13. Remove the outer oil seal. Remove the hub bearing.
  14.  

To reassemble:

  1. Install the ABS tone ring, if equipped. Install a new bearing assembly into the knuckle with a press.
  2.  
  3. Install a new outer oil seal. Apply multi-purpose grease to the seal lip.
  4.  
  5. Install the dust cover, applying sealer for water resistance.
  6.  
  7. Install the axle hub, applying multi-purpose grease between the oil seal lip, oil seal and bearing. Press the hub into the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Install the snapring.
  10.  
  11. Install the inner oil seal. Apply grease to the seal lip and driveshaft surface.
  12.  
  13. Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle (See Lower Ball Joint).
  14.  
  15. Install the brake disc and caliper to the steering knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Install the speed sensor or dust deflector.
