Steering Knuckle

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Loosen the wheel nuts and the center axle nut, while pressing the brake pedal.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and safely support it.
  4.

  1. Remove the wheel. Remove the ABS speed sensor if so equipped.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center axle nut.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper and hang it out of the way. Do NOT disconnect the brake line; do NOT allow the caliper to hang by the hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake rotor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod end.
  10.  
  11. Remove the tie rod end from the knuckle using a puller or equivalent.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts holding the bottom of the ball joint to the control arm and remove the arm from the knuckle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the nuts connecting the strut to the steering knuckle. Place a protective cover or shield over the CV-boot on the driveshaft.
  16.  
  17. Using a puller or equivalent, separate the driveshaft from the hub assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolts and remove the axle hub assembly.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Temporarily install the hub assembly to the lower control arm and fit the drive axle into the hub.
  2.  
  3. Install the knuckle to strut bolts, then install the tie rod end to the knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the strut bracket nuts and tie rod nut to specifications. Install a new cotter pin.
  6.  
  7. Connect the ball joint to the lower control arm and tighten the nuts to specifications.
  8.  
  9. Install the brake rotor.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake caliper and tighten the bolts.
  12.  
  13. Install the center nut and washer onto the axle shaft.
  14.  
  15. Install the ABS speed sensor, if equipped. Install the wheel assembly.
  16.  
  17. Lower the car to the ground.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the wheel nuts and the axle bolt to specifications. Install the cap and a new cotter pin.
  20.  
  21. Remove the protective cover from the CV-boot. Have the front wheels aligned.
  22.
