Speedometer Cable

This procedure applies to vehicles that have an analog speedometer. Those with a digital speedometer have no cable.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




CAUTION
On models with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds from the time that the ignition switch is turned to the lock position and the battery is disconnected before performing any further work.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the cable from the rear of the combination meter (See Combination Meter).
  4.  
  5. Unscrew the cable (at the transaxle end) from the speedometer driven gear housing on the transaxle.
  6.  
  7. Slip the cable through the grommet in the firewall or remove the grommet.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  


WARNING
When removing or installing the cable, be careful not to bend it to sharply or it will become kinked and require replacement.
