REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Lever Operated Intermediate Cable
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the parking brake lever console box.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retainer nut located on the top of the lever shaft.
  6.  
  7. From under the vehicle disconnect the cable from the equalizer and extract the intermediate cable from the lever assembly. Remove the cable from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse the removal procedure.
  10.  

Rear Cable
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Working from underneath of the car, loosen the locknut on the parking brake cable equalizer, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake drum or rotor from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Removal of the rear brake shoe and disconnect the parking brake cable from the shoe.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear cable from the equalizer assembly and remove the cable from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

ADJUSTMENT




WARNING
Before any adjustment is attempted, make sure that the rear parking brake shoe clearance is correct and that the automatic self adjuster is properly adjusted.

  1. If the brake system requires adjustment, loosen the cable adjusting nut cap which is located at the parking brake lever.
  2.  
  3. Take up the slack in the parking brake cable by rotating the adjusting nut with another open end wrench.
    1. To loosen the brake cable, turn the nut counterclockwise.
    2.  
    3. To increase the tension on the brake cable, turn the nut clockwise.
    4.

  5. Tighten the adjusting cap to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm), using care not to disturb the setting of the adjusting nut.
  6.  
  7. Check the rotation of the rear wheels to be sure the brakes are not dragging.
  8.  
  9. Count the clicks made by the parking brake lever. There should be 4-7 clicks while exerting 44 lbs. (20kg) upward pressure.
