REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

  1. Remove the tires and remove the brake drum or disc rotor. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic brake line on vehicles with drum brakes. Remove the abs sensor, if equipped.

  3. Remove the 4 axle hub and carrier mounting bolts. Remove the axle hub and brake assembly.
  4.  
  5. At this point of the service remove the rear axle carrier by following this procedure:
    1. Remove the strut rod mounting bolt from the axle carrier.
    2.  
    3. Remove all rear suspension arm mounting bolts from the axle carrier.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 axle carrier mounting bolts from the strut. Remove the rear axle carrier assembly from vehicle.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Torque all fasteners to specifications. Install new O-ring in axle carrier. Torque the 4 axle hub retaining bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).

  3. Bounce the car (rear and front) several times to stabilize the suspension. Have the rear alignment checked.

4WD Models
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

  1. Remove the axle nut cap and nut. Remove the brake caliper and disc rotor.
  2.  
  3. Remove the parking brake assembly, speed sensor, if equipped, parking brake cable, then loosen the axle carrier mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. At this point of the service remove the rear axle carrier by following this procedure:
    1. Remove the strut rod mounting bolt from the axle carrier.
    2.  
    3. Remove all rear suspension arm mounting bolts from the axle carrier.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 axle carrier mounting bolts from the strut. Remove the rear axle carrier assembly from vehicle.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Install new O-ring in axle carrier. Torque the parking brake cable bolts to 69 inch lbs. (7.8 Nm). Torque all other fasteners to specifications.
  2.  
  3. Bounce the car (rear and front) several times to position the suspension. Have the rear wheel alignment checked.
