Wheel Lug Studs

REPLACEMENT



Front Wheel
1988-89 VEHICLES WITH ABS
  1. Remove the front hub assembly, which must be disassembled to avoid damaging the ABS tone ring (See Front Hub and Bearing).
  2.  
  3. Remove the ABS tone ring.
  4.  
  5. Press out the old stud.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Press in a new stud.
  2.  
  3. Reverse the remaining procedures to complete installation.
  4.

EXCEPT 1988-89 VEHICLES WITH ABS
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the front wheel.
  2.

  1. Remove the front brake caliper and bracket, then the disc brake rotor.
  2.  
  3. Press out the lug stud.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Install the new hub stud and draw into place using the nut and a stack of washers. The new hub stud must be fully seated in the hub assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install front brake disc, front brake caliper and bracket. Torque the brake caliper and bracket to specifications.
  4.  
  5. Install front wheel and lower the vehicle.
  6.  

Rear Wheel
WITH DRUM BRAKES
  1. Raise the vehicle and support safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake drum from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Press the lug stud out of the axle hub.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Draw the lug stud into the axle hub using the nut and a stack of washers. The stud must be fully seated on the back of the hub.
  2.  
  3. Install the brake drum onto the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  6.  

WITH REAR DISC BRAKES
  1. Raise the vehicle and support safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove and disassemble the hub bearing assembly on 2wd models with ABS, since the toner ring can be damaged. On other models, remove the caliper/bracket assembly and the brake rotor.
  6.  
  7. Press out the wheel lug stud.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Press in the stud on 2wd models with ABS or draw the new lug stud into the hub using the nut and a stack of washers on other models. The stud must be fully seated against the hub.
  2.  
  3. Install the brake rotor. Install rear brake caliper assembly and torque to specifications.
  4.  
  5. Install the rear wheel and lower the vehicle.
  6.
