Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor

Print

OPERATION

The IAT sensor is located in the air cleaner housing. The IAT sensor advises the ECM of changes in intake air temperature (and therefore air density). As air temperature of the intake varies, the ECM, by monitoring the voltage change, adjusts the amount of fuel injection according to the air temperature.

TESTING

See Figure 1

  1. Remove the IAT sensor.
  2.
  3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Refer to the graph.
  4.

  1. If the resistance is not within specifications, replace the sensor.
  2.
  3. Install the sensor.

Disconnect the wiring from the IAT sensor. Test the sensor using an ohmmeter. If the testing is not within specifications, grasp the sensor and replace as necessary. Inspect the sensor grommet and replace if deteriorated. Insert a new sensor and attach the wiring.
