Pedal Free Play

Push in the pedal until the beginning of the clutch resistance is felt. Resistance is 0.197-0.59 inch (5-15mm).

Fig. Pedal free-play is measured by the distance the pedal travels

Pedal Height

  1. Measure clutch pedal height from the floor to the top of the pedal pad, along the line of pedal travel. The height should be:

    1994-5.86-6.25 inch (148.8-158.9mm)

    1995-98-5.70-6.10 inch (144.9-154.9mm)

  2.
  3. Adjust the pedal height, if necessary, by loosening the locknut and turning the adjusting bolt or rotating clutch switch, and retighten the locknut. Now adjust the pedal free-play.
  4.

Pushrod Play

  1. Gently push on the pedal until the resistance begins to increase a little. The push rod free-play at the pedal top should be 0.039-0.197 inch (1.0-5.0mm).
  2.
  3. Loosen the locknut and push the rod until the free play and push rod play are correct. Tighten the lock nut, then after adjusting the play, check the pedal height. connect the air duct and install the finish panel.
  4.

Release Point

  1. Pull the parking brake lever and install a wheel stopper.
  2.
  3. Start the engine and idle the engine.
  4.
  5. Without depressing the clutch pedal, slowly shift the shift lever into reverse position until the gears contact.
  6.
  7. Gradually depress the clutch pedal and measure the stroke distance from the point the gear noise stops (release point) up to the full stroke end position. Standard distance is 0.98 inch (25mm) or more.

Fig. Pedal locations for inspecting the clutch release point

If the distance is not as specified, perform the following inspections:

Check the pedal height

Check the push rod play and height

Bleed the clutch line

Check the cover and disc
