Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the rear wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the spare wheel cover assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear floor finish plate.
  6.  
  7. Remove the luggage compartment trim cover.
  8.  
  9. Support the rear axle beam with a jack.
  10.  
  11. Remove the two nuts at the top, the single nut at the bottom and the shock assembly.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Replace the shock absorber and the three nuts and bolts. Torque all three to 56 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Replace the luggage compartment trim cover.
  4.  
  5. Replace the rear floor finish plate.
  6.  
  7. Replace the spare wheel cover assembly.
  8.  
  9. Replace the rear wheel.
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the rear axle beam.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Package tray trim
     
    Rear seat
     
    Door scuff plate and door opening trim
     
    Quarter panel trim
     
    Roof side inner garnish
     
    Partition board
     
    Shock absorber upper nuts and lower bolt
     

  6.  
  7. Lower the axle slowly and remove the spring
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the upper insulator so that its gap fits into the end of the spring.
  2.  
  3. Place the lower insulator on the axle.
  4.  
  5. Raise the axle while positioning the shock. Torque the lower bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Position the lower nut on the rod so that the rod protrudes 15-18mm above the nut.
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Upper nut. Torque the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Partition board
     
    Roof side inner garnish
     
    Quarter panel
     
    Door scuff plate and trim
     
    Rear seat
     
    Package tray trim
     
    Wheels
     

  10.  

  1. Remove the rear wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nut and disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the shock.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the ABS Speed Sensor wire harness clamp from the shock absorber by removing the nut.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the flexible hose from the shock absorber bracket.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the two nuts on the lower side of the shock absorber.
    NOTE
    Don-t remove the two previous nuts, just loosen them.

  10.  
  11. Remove the three nuts on the upper side of the shock absorber.
  12.  
  13. Remove the shock absorber.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Replace the shock absorber and the two nuts and bolts on the lower side of the shock.
  2.  
  3. Replace the three nuts on the upper side of the shock and torque to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Replace the two nuts at the lower side of the shock and torque to 128 ft. lbs. (173 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the flexible hose and the ABS Speed Sensor wire harness clamp.
  8.
