Adjustment



Check the backlash in bearing shaft direction and the axle hub deviation. Maximum for backlash should be 0.0020 in. (0.05mm). Maximum axle hub deviation is 0.0028 in. (0.07mm).


NOTE
The wheel bearing is non-adjustable. If the wheel bearing is out of specifications, replace the wheel bearing.

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable. On vehicles equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding
     
    Wheel
     
    Brake drum or rotor
     
    With ABS brakes, ABS wheel speed sensor
     
    Hub
     
    O-ring from the backing plate
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New O-ring onto the backing plate. Coat the O-ring with multipurpose grease
     
    Hub to the knuckle. Bolts: Except Echo, 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm); Echo, 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
     
    With ABS brakes, ABS wheel speed sensor
     
    Brake drum or rotor
     
    Wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Check and adjust the alignment, if needed.
  4.
