  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. On the 4M-E and 5M-E series, disconnect and remove the air intake hose.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the PCV hose(s) from the valve cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the acorn nuts and washers. Lift the valve cover off the cylinder head. Cover the oil return hole in the head to prevent dirt or objects from falling in. Remove the valve cover gasket.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install a new valve cover gasket to the valve cover.
  2.  
  3. Place the valve cover on the cylinder head, then install the new washers to the cover if used.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the acorn nuts evenly, reconnect the PCV hose and install the air cleaner assembly.
  6.  
  7. Check the oil level and top off if necessary.
  8.  

5M-GE Engine

  1. Disconnect the air intake hose by loosening the clamps at either end. Remove the hose.
  2.  
  3. Tag and disconnect all PCV and other hoses which obstruct valve cover removal.
  4.  
  5. Remove the Phillips screws and lift off the valve covers and their gaskets.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Install the valve cover with a new gasket to the cylinder head. Tighten the mounting screws.
  2.  
  3. Attach the all hoses that were tagged and removed.
  4.  
  5. Install the air intake hose.
  6.  
  7. Check the oil level and top off if necessary.
  8.
