The non-rack and pinion steering gear oil level should be checked at least every 15,000 miles (24,000 km). The filler plug is on top of the gear housing. The oil level should be kept even with the bottom of the filler hole or slightly lower. Use standard GL-4 hypoid type gear oil-SAE 90. Rack and pinion steering systems (1982-85) do not require an oil level check.
