REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1C-L
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely using jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the gravel shield from underneath the engine.
  6.  
  7. Remove the downpipe support bracket.
  8.  
  9. Unscrew the bolts from the exhaust flange, then detach the downpipe from the manifold.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the manifold retaining bolts.
  12.  


CAUTION
Always remove and tighten the manifold bolts in two or three stages, starting from the inside and working out

  1. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Always use a new gasket and tighten the retaining bolts to the proper specifications.
  2.

CAUTION
Do not perform this operation on a warm or hot engine!

  1. Detach the manifold heat stove intake pipe.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the nut on the stove outlet pipe union.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiring from the emission control system thermosensor.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the U-bolt from the downpipe bracket.
  8.

  1. Unfasten the downpipe flange from the manifold.
  2.  
  3. In order to remove the manifold, unfasten the retaining bolts.
  4.  

Remove the bolts in two or three stages and starting from the inside working out

  1. Installation of the manifold is performed in the reverse order of removal. Remember to use a new gasket. Please refer to the torque specifications chart for the proper installation torque.

4A-GE Series
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle safely using jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right side gravel shield.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold after removing the support bracket. Disengage the oxygen sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle (if necessary) for underhood access, then remove the mounting bolts and exhaust manifold.
  10.  
  11. Install in the reverse order of removal. Torque the manifold retainers (from center outwards) to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
