REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

Gasoline Engines
REAR WHEEL DRIVE

On early models this service procedure should be modified by omitting the necessary steps

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.

CAUTION
When draining coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old

  1. Unfasten the fan shroud securing bolts and remove the shroud, if so equipped.
  2.
  3. Loosen the alternator adjusting link bolt and remove the drive belt.
  4.
  5. Remove the air and/or power steering pump drive belt, if so equipped.
  6.
  7. Remove the cooling fan assembly.
  8.

CAUTION
If the fan is equipped with a fluid coupling, do not tip the fan assembly on its side, as the fluid will run out!

  1. Remove the water outlet housing and by-pass pipe and hose.
  2.
  3. Remove the water inlet housing and thermostat.
  4.
  5. Remove the heater outlet pipe oil dipstick and oil dipstick guide.
  6.
