FLUID LEVEL CHECK
See Figures 1 through 8
The brake and clutch master cylinders are located under the hood, in the left rear section of the engine compartment. They are made of translucent plastic so that the levels may be checked without removing the tops. The fluid level in both reservoirs should be checked at least every 15,000 miles. The fluid level should be maintained at the upper most mark on the side of the reservoir. Any sudden decrease in the level indicates a possible leaks in the system and should be checked out immediately.
Some early models may have two separate reservoirs for the brake master cylinder, but most will only have one. All Corollas with a manual transmission will also utilize a clutch master cylinder which is located close to the brake master cylinder
When making additions of brake fluid to the brake or clutch master cylinders use only fresh, uncontaminated brake fluid meeting or exceeding DOT 3 standards. Be careful not to spill any brake fluid on painted surfaces, as it eats the paint. Do not allow the brake fluid container or the master cylinder reservoir to remain open any longer than necessary; brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, reducing its effectiveness and causing corrosion in the lines.
ALWAYS clean the cylinder reservoir cover before removal. This will help prevent the possibility of allowing dirt to enter the system as the cover is removed
