REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 through 12

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner case assembly with hose. Remove the coolant reservoir tank.
  4.  
  5. Remove release cylinder tube bracket and cylinder assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector.
  8.

  1. Remove the ground cable. Disconnect shift cables from the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor connector or speedometer cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the starter set bolt from the transaxle upper side.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 transaxle upper mounting bolts.
  8.

  1. Remove the engine left mounting stay.
  2.  
  3. Install engine support fixture. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels. Remove the engine under covers.
  6.  
  7. Drain the transaxle oil.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lower ball joint from the lower arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the halfshafts-refer to the necessary service procedures.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  14.

  1. Remove the hole cover, if so equipped. Remove the engine front mounting set bolts.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect engine rear mounting. Remove the engine center support member.
  4.  
  5. Remove the starter. Remove stiffener plate if so equipped.
  6.  
  7. Raise the transaxle and engine slightly with a jack. Remove the engine left mounting set bolts from the front side.
  8.  
  9. Remove the transaxle mounting bolts from the engine front side. Remove the transaxle mounting bolts from the engine rear side. Lower the engine left side and remove the transaxle from the engine.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Align the input shaft with the clutch disc, then install the transaxle to the engine. Torque the engine-to-transaxle bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm) for 12mm bolts and 34 ft. lbs. (46 Nm) for 10mm bolts.
  2.  
  3. Raise the transaxle and engine slightly, then install the left engine mounting. Install the left engine-to-transaxle mount bolts and torque to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm).

  1. Install stiffener plate if so equipped. Install starter and connect the electrical wiring to the starter.
  2.  
  3. Install engine center support member. Torque the small bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm) and larger bolts to 152 ft. lbs. (206 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the engine rear mounting and torque the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm). Connect the engine front mounting and torque bolts 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm). Install hole covers.
  6.  
  7. Install front exhaust pipe.
  8.  
  9. Install the halfshafts-refer to the necessary service procedures.
  10.  
  11. Connect the lower ball joint to lower arm.
  12.  
  13. Fill the transaxle with the correct gear oil.
  14.  
  15. Install under covers. Install front wheels and lower the vehicle. Remove the engine support fixture.
  16.  
  17. Install engine left mounting set bolt. Torque the mounting bolt to 41 ft. lbs. (56 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install engine left mounting stay. Connect vehicle speed sensor connector or speedometer cable.
  20.  
  21. Reconnect the transaxle shift cables. Install ground cable.
  22.  
  23. Connect the back-up light switch connector.
  24.  
  25. Install release cylinder and release cylinder tube bracket.
  26.  
  27. Install coolant reservoir tank.
  28.  
  29. Install air cleaner case assembly.
  30.  
  31. Connect the negative battery cable. Check front wheel alignment.
  32.  
  33. Road test the vehicle and check for abnormal noise and smooth shifting.
  34.
