Upper and Lower Control Arms

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



RWD Models

On FWD models, refer to the rear suspension exploded views and this procedure as a guide for this service repair

  1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support the body with jackstands. Support the rear axle housing with a jack.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolt holding the upper control arm to the body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt holding the upper control arm to the axle housing and then remove the upper control arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt holding the lower control arm to the body.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt holding the lower control arm to the rear axle housing and then remove the lower control arm.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Position the upper control arm and install the arm-to-body and arm-to-axle housing bolts. Do not tighten the nuts.
  2.  
  3. Position the lower control arm and install the arm-to-body and arm-to-axle housing bolts. Do not tighten the nuts.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle and bounce it a few times to stabilize the suspension.
  6.  
  7. Raise and support the vehicle once again. Raise the rear axle housing until the body is just free from the jackstands.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the upper arm-to-body nut to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm). Do the same for the upper arm-to-axle housing nuts.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the lower arm-to-body nuts to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm). Do the same for the lower arm-to-axle housing nuts.
