REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



4A-GE Engine

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Relieve the fuel pressure. Remove the vacuum sensing hose from the fuel pressure regulator.

  1. Remove the fuel hose from the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the two retaining bolts and pull the regulator out of the fuel rail.
  4.  

To install:
  1. When reinstalling (replace O-ring) the two retaining bolts are tightened to 5 ft. lbs. (65 inch lbs.) Connect the two hoses (fuel and vacuum).

  1. Start the engine and check carefully for leaks.
  2.  

4A-FE and 7A-FE Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure.
  4.  


CAUTION
The fuel system is under pressure. Release pressure slowly and contain spillage. Observe "no smoking/no open flame'' precautions. Have a Class B-C (dry powder) fire extinguisher within arm's reach at all times.

  1. Unplug the vacuum sensing hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the fuel pipe from the regulator.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two retaining bolts and pull the regulator out of the fuel rail.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Apply a light coat of gasoline to a new O-ring, then install it on the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the regulator to the left and right while installing it in the fuel rail. Make certain it can be smoothly rotated. If it does not rotate smoothly, the O-ring is not seated correctly and should be replaced.
  4.  
  5. Install the two retaining bolts. Tighten them to 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the fuel and vacuum hoses.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and check carefully for leaks.
