The engine serial number consists of an engine series identification number, followed by a six-digit production number.

The location of this serial number varies from one engine type to another. Serial numbers may be found in the following locations:

1,900cc (8R-C)

The serial number for this engine is embossed beside the fuel pump on the right side of the engine.

2,000cc (18R-C)

The serial number is stamped on the left side of the engine, behind the dipstick.

2,200 and 2,400cc (20R and 22R)

The serial number is stamped on the left side of the engine, behind the alternator.

2,300, 2,600 and 2,800cc (2M, 4M, 4ME and 5ME)

The serial numbers on these engines are stamped on the right side of the cylinder block, below the oil filter.
