Upper and Lower Control Arm

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Raise and support the rear axle housing and frame safely. Be sure to leave the jack under the rear axle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolt holding the upper control arm to the body.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt holding the upper control arm to the rear axle housing and remove the control rod.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt holding the lower control arm to the body.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt holding the lower control arm to the rear axle housing and remove the lower control rod.
  10.  

To install:

  1. In order to remove the lower and upper control arm bushings, it will be necessary to use a hydraulic press to press out the old ones and press in the new ones.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper control arm to the body with the retaining bolt and the nut but do not tighten them.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper control arm to the rear axle housing with the retaining bolt and nut but do not tighten them.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower control arm to the body with the retaining bolt and nut but do not tighten them.
  8.  
  9. Install the lower control arm to the rear axle housing with the retaining bolt and nut but do not tighten them.
  10.  
  11. Remove the jack stands and bounce the car to stabilize the suspension.
  12.  
  13. Raise the axle housing until the body is free from the jack stands and torque all the upper and lower control arm bolts and nuts to 105 ft. lbs. (142 Nm).
