Rear Suspension Arm

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Raise and support the rear axle housing and frame safely. Be sure to leave the jack under the rear axle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer bar from the arm.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the drive shaft assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear axle flange and rear axle shaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear brake assembly and rotor disc.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
  12.  
  13. Remove the parking brake with dust cover.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the brake line.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the shock absorber from the suspension arm.
  18.  
  19. Remove the coil spring and insulators.
  20.  
  21. Remove the suspension arm retaining bolts. Remove the camber adjusting cam and the suspension arm. Be sure to mark the position when removing the suspension arm.

To install:

  1. In order to remove the rear suspension arm bushings, it will be necessary to use a hydraulic press to press out the old ones and press in the new ones.
  2.  
  3. Align the mark at the same position it was before removal. Install the suspension arm and temporarily tighten the bolt.
  4.  
  5. Install the insulators and the coil spring.
  6.  
  7. Install the shock absorber and tighten the nut to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the parking brake with dust cover. Tighten the nut to 105 ft. lbs. (142 Nm) and the bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the brake line. Connect the parking brake cable.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear axle shaft and rear axle shaft flange.
  14.  
  15. Install the disc rotor and the rear brake assembly. Tighten the bolts to 34 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Connect the drive shaft.
  18.  
  19. Install the rear stabilizer link to the body. Connect the stabilizer bar on both sides to link with the bolts, collars, cushions and nut. Tighten the bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Install the rear wheel assembly. Remove the jackstands and bounce the car to stabilize the suspension.
  22.  
  23. Tighten the suspension arm bolts to 90 ft. lbs. (123 Nm) on the inside one and 67 ft. lbs. (91 Nm) on the outside one.
  24.  
  25. Bleed the brake system. Be sure to have the rear wheel alignment checked.
