5M-GE Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hood.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan shroud.
  10.  
  11. Drain the cooling system.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  14.  
  15. If equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect and plug the oil lines from the oil cooler.
  16.  
  17. Detach the hose which runs to the thermal expansion tank and remove the expansion tank from its mounting bracket.
  18.  
  19. Remove the radiator.
  20.  
  21. If equipped with automatic transmission, remove the throttle cable bracket from the cylinder head. Remove the accelerator and actuator cable bracket from the cylinder head.
  22.  
  23. Tag and disconnect the cylinder head ground cable, the oxygen sensor wire, the oil pressure sending unit, alternator wires, the high tension coil wire, the water temperature sending, the thermo switch wires, the starter wires, the ECT connectors, the solenoid resistor wire connector and the knock sensor wire.
  24.  
  25. Tag and disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the air intake chamber, along with the EGR valve vacuum hose. Disconnect the actuator vacuum hose from the air intake chamber, if equipped with cruise control. Disconnect the heater bypass hoses from the engine.
  26.  
  27. Remove the glove box, and remove the ECU computer module. Disconnect the 3 connectors, and pull out the EFI wiring harness from the engine compartment side of the firewall.
  28.  
  29. Remove the 4 shroud and 4 fluid coupling screws, and the shroud and coupling as a unit.
  30.  
  31. Remove the engine undercover protector.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the coolant reservoir hose. Remove the radiator and the coolant expansion tank.
  34.  
  35. Remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt, and remove the compressor mounting bolts. Without disconnecting the refrigerant hoses, lay the compressor to one side and secure it.
  36.  
  37. Disconnect the power steering pump drive belt and remove the pump stay. Unbolt the pump and lay it aside without disconnecting the fluid hoses.
  38.  
  39. Remove the engine mounting bolts from each side of the engine. Remove the engine ground cable.
  40.  
  41. If equipped with manual transmission, remove the shift lever from the inside of the vehicle.
  42.  
  43. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  44.  
  45. Drain the engine oil.
  46.  
  47. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Remove the exhaust pipe clamp from the transmission housing.
  48.  
  49. If equipped with manual transmission, remove the clutch slave cylinder.
  50.  
  51. Disconnect the speedometer cable at the transmission.
  52.  
  53. If equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect the shift linkage from the shift lever. On vehicles equipped with manual transmission, disconnect the wire from the back-up light switch.
  54.  
  55. Remove the stiffener plate from the ground cable.
  56.  
  57. Disconnect and plug the fuel line from the fuel filter and the return hose from the fuel hose support.
  58.  
  59. Remove the 2 bolts from the top and bottom of the steering universal, and remove the sliding yoke.
  60.  
  61. Disconnect the tie rod ends. Disconnect the pressure line mounting bolts from the front crossmember.
  62.  
  63. Remove the intermediate shaft from the driveshaft.
  64.  
  65. Position a jack under the transmission, with a wooden block between the two to prevent damage to the transmission case. Place a wooden block between the cowl panel and the cylinder head rear end to prevent damage to the heater hoses.
  66.  
  67. Unbolt the engine rear support member from the frame, along with the ground cable.
  68.  
  69. Make sure all wiring is disconnected, all hoses disconnected, and everything clear of the engine and transmission. Connect a suitable lifting device to the lift brackets on the engine, and carefully lift the engine and transmission up and out of the vehicle.
  70.  

To install:

  1. Install the transmission housing mount bolts and exhaust pipe bracket. Install the starter and tighten the retaining bolts.
  2.  
  3. Attach a suitable engine hoist chain to the lifting bracket on the engine. Lower the engine into the engine compartment.
  4.  
  5. Align the engine with the transmission and engine mounting supports. Install the engine mounting bolts on each side of the engine and remove the engine hoist chain.
  6.  
  7. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Install the engine rear support member with the ground strap to the body. Install the intermediate shaft to the propeller shaft.
  10.  
  11. Install the power steering gear housing and 2 brackets. Tighten the retaining bolts to 56 ft. lbs. (76 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the tie rod ends and install a new cotter pin after tightening the castle nut to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm). Install the sliding yoke and 2 lockbolts.
  14.  
  15. Connect the battery ground strap to the engine mounting bracket. Install the stiffener plate with the ground strap.
  16.  
  17. Connect the main fuel line to the fuel filter. Connect the fuel hose to the fuel hose support.
  18.  
  19. Install the coolant reservoir tank. Install the radiator and 2 mounting bolts. Connect the coolant receiver tube, the 2 oil cooler lines (automatic transmission) and install the radiator lower hose.
  20.  
  21. Install the fan shroud and fluid coupling.
  22.  
  23. Install the air cleaner case, air flow meter and air intake connector pipe.
  24.  
  25. Connect the fuel injection wiring harness to the ECU.
  26.  
  27. Connect the 2 heater hoses to the block and cylinder head.
  28.  
  29. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold. The actuator vacuum hose to the intake manifold (with cruise control system) and the EGR valve vacuum hose.
  30.  
  31. Connect the following wires and cables:
  32.  
    1. Ground strap to the cylinder head.
    2.  
    3. Oxygen sensor wire.
    4.  
    5. Oil pressure sending unit wire.
    6.  
    7. Cooling temperature sensor connector.
    8.  
    9. Spark plug cables.
    10.  
    11. Distributor connector.
    12.  
    13. Water temperature sending unit wire.
    14.  
    15. Temperature switch wire.
    16.  
    17. Solenoid resistor wire connector.
    18.  
    19. Knock sensor wire connector.
    20.  

  33. Install the accelerator and actuator cable bracket. Install the throttle cable bracket (automatic transmission only).
  34.  
  35. Close the radiator and engine drain valves and refill the coolant system.
  36.  
  37. Put in the engine oil pan drain plug and refill with fresh clean motor oil.
  38.  
  39. Connect the wire to the back-up light switch (manual transmission only).
  40.  
  41. Connect the speedometer cable. Install the clutch release cylinder (manual transmission only).
  42.  
  43. Connect the shift linkage to the shift lever (automatic transmission only).
  44.  
  45. Position a new gasket on the exhaust pipe. Connect the exhaust pipe and install a new nuts. Tighten the nuts to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm). Install the exhaust pipe clamp to transmission housing. Lower the vehicle.
  46.  
  47. Install the power steering pump and stay bracket. Install the power steering pump pulley with the drive belt. Pry on the alternator to obtain the specified belt tension.
  48.  
  49. Install the air conditioning compressor with the bracket onto the engine block. Turn the adjusting on the idler pulley until the specified belt tension is obtained.
  50.  
  51. Install the engine under cover.
  52.  
  53. Install the washer tank. Install the battery.
  54.  
  55. Install the hood assembly.
  56.  
  57. Start the engine. Make all necessary adjustments, check for oil and coolant leaks and repair as necessary.
  58.  
  59. Road test the vehicle and make sure it operates properly. Shut off the engine and recheck the fluid levels, add as necessary.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the hood.
  6.  
  7. Remove the battery and tray.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the accelerator, throttle and cruise control cables.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air cleaner assembly complete with the air flow meter, hoses and connector pipe.
  12.  
  13. Tag and disconnect all electrical wires and vacuum hoses necessary to remove the engine.
  14.  
  15. Remove the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Remove the drive belt and unbolt the air conditioning compressor. Position it out of the way and suspend it with wire. Do not disconnect the refrigerant lines.
  18.  
  19. Unbolt the power steering pump. Position it out of the way and suspend it with wire. Do not disconnect the hydraulic lines.
  20.  
  21. Remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir.
  22.  
  23. Remove the glove box and disconnect the 6 connectors from the main wiring harness and then pull the main wiring harness through the firewall and into the engine compartment.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the heater hoses.
  26.  
  27. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  28.  
  29. Remove the engine under cover and drain the oil.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the exhaust pipe at the manifold.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the driveshaft at the transmission flange and position it out of the way.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the transmission linkage.
  36.  
  37. Disconnect the starter lead and the ground lines at the stiffener plate and left side engine mount.
  38.  
  39. Disconnect and plug the fuel lines.
  40.  
  41. Remove the front wheels and then disconnect the power steering rack. Leave the hydraulic lines attached and lay the rack aside.
  42.  
  43. Loosen the 8 bolts and the ground strap and then remove the rear engine support.
  44.  
  45. Lower the vehicle and remove the 4 engine mount-to-suspension bolts. Attach an engine hoist to the 2 engine hangers and then slowly and vehicle fully lift the engine out of the vehicle.
  46.  

To install:

  1. Before installing the transmission, check for proper torque converter installation as follows:
  2.  
    1. Using calipers (or a suitable measuring device) and a straight edge, measure from the installed surface of the torque converter to the front surface of the transmission housing.
    2.  
    3. The correct distance 26.4mm. If the distance is less than standard, check for improper installation.
    4.  

  3. Assemble the engine and transmission with the four retaining bolts and torque them to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the starter with the 2 bolts and nuts. Connect the electrical harness.
  6.  
  7. Attach the electrical connectors at the automatic transmission.
  8.  
  9. Clamp the throttle cable.
  10.  
  11. Install the torque converter mount bolts. Be sure to install the gray bolt first and then the other bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the oil cooler lines at the automatic transmission.
  14.  
  15. Install the engine rear end plate, stiffener plates and exhaust pipe stay bracket with the eight bolts.
  16.  
  17. Attach a suitable engine hoist chain to the lifting bracket on the engine. Lower the engine into the engine compartment. Place a suitable jack under the transmission.
  18.  

Be sure to put a wooden block between the jack and the transmission pan to prevent damage.

  1. Align the bolt holes of the engine mounting and suspension member. Install the 4 bolts and remove the chain hoist.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Install the engine rear support member with the ground and strap along with the eight bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering gear housing.
  6.  
  7. Install the front wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Install the fuel hoses. Connect the starter cable, ground strap to stiffener plate and the ground strap to the left-hand engine mounting.
  10.  
  11. Connect manual shift linkage. Connect the speedometer. Install the propeller shaft.
  12.  
  13. Position a new gasket on the exhaust pipe. Connect the exhaust pipe and install new nuts. Tighten the nuts to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm). Install a new gasket and the exhaust pipe with the 2 nuts and bolts and torque them to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm). Connect the rubber ring and install the exhaust manifold clamp with the bolt. Install the engine under cover. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Connect the heater hoses.
  16.  
  17. Push in the engine wire harness through the cowl panel. Connect the 6 connectors. Install the glove box. Install the 2 clamps and ground strap.
  18.  
  19. Install the washer tank.
  20.  
  21. Install the power steering pump and stay bracket. Install the power steering pump pulley with the drive belt. Pry on the alternator to obtain the specified belt tension.
  22.  
  23. Install the air conditioning compressor with the bracket onto the engine block. Turn the adjusting on the idler pulley until the specified belt tension is obtained.
  24.  
  25. Install the radiator assembly.
  26.  
  27. Connect the following wire, connectors and vacuum hoses:
  28.  
    1. Connect the connector to the fuse and relay block.
    2.  
    3. Alternator connector and wire.
    4.  
    5. The air conditioning connector.
    6.  
    7. Check connector.
    8.  
    9. The igniter connector.
    10.  
    11. Spark plug cables.
    12.  
    13. The brake booster vacuum hose.
    14.  
    15. The cruise control vacuum hose.
    16.  
    17. The charcoal canister vacuum hose.
    18.  

  29. Install the air cleaner assembly with the air flow meter, air cleaner hoses and air intake connector pipe with the three bolts and connect the hose.
  30.  
  31. Connect the air hose and connect the air flow meter connection.
  32.  
  33. Connect the accelerator cable, cruise control cable and throttle cable.
  34.  
  35. Install the battery tray and battery.
  36.  
  37. Close the radiator and engine drain valves and refill the coolant system.
  38.  
  39. Put in the engine oil pan drain plug and refill with fresh clean motor oil.
  40.  
  41. Install the hood assembly.
  42.  
  43. Start the engine. Make all necessary adjustments, check for oil and coolant leaks and repair as necessary.
  44.  
  45. Road test the vehicle and make sure it operates properly. Shut off the engine and recheck the fluid levels, add as necessary.
  46.

  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front seat.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Drain the coolant.
  8.  


CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Disconnect the following hoses:

    Radiator inlet hoses.
     
    Radiator breather hose.
     
    Reservoir tank hose.
     
    Heater outlet hose.
     
    Radiator outlet hose.
     
    Brake booster hose.
     
    Fuel inlet hose.
     
    Fuel outlet hose.
     
    Charcoal canister hose.
     

  2.  
  3. Disconnect and tag all vacuum hoses attached to various engine parts.

  1. Disconnect the following wire connectors:

    The alternator connector and B terminal.
     
    The air flow meter connector.
     
    The solenoid resistor connector.
     
    Water temperature sending unit connector.
     
    The oil pressure switch connector.
     
    The integrated ignition assembly connector.
     
    The air conditioning compressor connector, if so equipped.
     
    The air conditioning idle up solenoid connector, if so equipped.
     
    The vacuum switching valve, if so equipped.
     
    The coolant temperature switch.
     

  2.  
  3. Disconnect and tag all cables attached to various engine parts.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt the power steering pump and secure it out of the way.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan shroud.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fan and fan clutch. Do not lay the fan on its side. If you do, the fluid will leak out and the fan clutch will be permanently ruined.
  12.  
  13. Unbolt the air conditioning compressor and secure it out of the way.
  14.  
  15. Raise the vehicle about 39 in. (1 meter) off the floor and support it securely.
  16.  
  17. Drain the engine oil.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the driveshaft.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the remove the exhaust system.
  22.  
  23. Remove the transmission control cable.
  24.  
  25. Remove the clutch release starter.
  26.  
  27. Remove the starter.
  28.  
  29. Remove the speedometer cable.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect all remaining hoses and cable from the transmission.
  32.  
  33. Remove the engine tensioner cable.
  34.  
  35. Remove the engine underpan.
  36.  
  37. Remove the strut bar.
  38.  
  39. Place an engine jack under the engine and take up the weight. Unbolt and remove the engine mounts and lower the engine from the vehicle.
  40.  

To install:

  1. Install the engine mounting member to the engine. Raise the engine with the transmission and install the mounting member bolts and nuts. Torque them to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the bracket with the engine rear mounting to the body. Tighten the bolts to 14-22 ft. lbs. (19-30 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the strut bar.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2 oil cooler lines at the automatic transmission.
  8.  
  9. Install the engine under cover. Connect the engine ground cable to the engine mounting.
  10.  
  11. Connect the heater outlet hose and the rear heater hoses, if so equipped.
  12.  
  13. Connect the heater air mix damper cable to the damper, if so equipped.
  14.  
  15. Connect the mode selector cable to the damper. Move the control lever back and fourth and check for stiffness and binding through full range of operation.
  16.  
  17. Connect the speedometer cable and ground cable. Connect the back-up light switch connector.
  18.  
  19. Install the starter with its 2 bolts. Connect the 2 wires to the starter.
  20.  
  21. Install the front exhaust pipe. Install the transmission control selector and shift cable.
  22.  
  23. Install the clutch release cylinder. Install the driveshaft.
  24.  
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26.  
  27. Install the compressor and tighten the 4 bolts. Install the drive belt and adjust the drive belt to obtain the proper tension.
  28.  
  29. Connect the ECU connectors. Install the cover and the seat belt retractor. Install the center pillar garnish.
  30.  
  31. Install the fluid coupling with the fan assembly. Adjust the drive belt tension. Install the radiator assembly, if removed.
  32.  
  33. Install the fan shroud assembly. Connect the following wires:

    The alternator connector and B terminal.
     
    The air flow meter connector.
     
    The solenoid resistor connector.
     
    Water temperature sending unit connector.
     
    The oil pressure switch connector.
     
    The integrated ignition assembly connector.
     
    The air conditioning compressor connector, if so equipped.
     
    The air conditioning idle up solenoid connector, if so equipped.
     
    The vacuum switching valve, if so equipped.
     
    The coolant temperature switch.
     

  34.  
  35. Connect the accelerator cable to the throttle body.
  36.  
  37. Install the power steering pump assembly. Install the drive belt and adjust the belt tension.
  38.  
  39. Connect the following hoses:

    Radiator inlet hoses.
     
    Radiator breather hose.
     
    Reservoir tank hose.
     
    Heater outlet hose.
     
    Radiator outlet hose.
     
    Brake booster hose.
     
    Fuel inlet hose.
     
    Fuel outlet hose.
     
    Charcoal canister hose.
     

  40.  
  41. Refill the coolant system with the proper coolant mixture.
  42.  
  43. Refill the engine with clean fresh engine oil.
  44.  
  45. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for any leaks, repair as necessary.
  46.  
  47. Make all necessary adjustments, such as idle speed and ignition timing.
  48.  
  49. Install the engine service hole cover. Install the right seat and then road test the vehicle to check that the vehicle is operating properly.
  50.  
  51. Shut down the engine and recheck the fluid levels once the engine has cooled down.
  52.  

4Y-EC Engine
  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front seat.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine service hole cover.
  6.  
  7. Drain the coolant.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the following hoses:

    Radiator inlet hoses
     
    Radiator breather hose
     
    Reservoir tank hose
     
    Heater outlet hose
     
    Radiator outlet hose
     
    Brake booster hose
     
    Fuel inlet hose
     
    Fuel outlet hose
     
    Charcoal canister hose
     

  10.  
  11. Disconnect and tag all vacuum hoses attached to various engine parts.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the following wire connectors:

    The alternator connector and B terminal
     
    The air flow meter connector
     
    The solenoid resistor connector
     
    Water temperature sending unit connector
     
    The oil pressure switch connector
     
    The ignition connectors at the distributor
     
    The air conditioning compressor connector, if so equipped
     
    The air conditioning idle up solenoid connector, if so equipped
     
    The vacuum switching valve, if so equipped
     
    The coolant temperature switch
     

  14.  
  15. Disconnect and tag all cables attached to various engine parts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the air cleaner hose.
  18.  
  19. Unbolt the power steering pump and secure it out of the way.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the throttle cable from the throttle linkage.
  22.  
  23. Remove the fan shroud. Remove the fan and fan clutch. Do not lay the fan on its side. If you do, the fluid will leak out and the fan clutch will be permanently ruined. Remove the radiator assembly.
  24.  
  25. Remove the center pillar garnish. Remove the seat belt retractor and ECU cover and disconnect the ECU wire connectors.
  26.  
  27. Loosen the air conditioning compressor drive belt adjusting bolts and remove the drive belt. Unbolt the air conditioning compressor and secure it out of the way.
  28.  
  29. Raise the vehicle about 4 feet off the floor and support it securely.
  30.  
  31. Drain the engine oil.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the driveshaft.
  34.  
  35. Disconnect the transmission control cables. Remove the clutch release cylinder.
  36.  
  37. Disconnect the wire connectors at the starter, remove the 2 starter bolts and remove the starter assembly.
  38.  
  39. Disconnect the speedometer cable. Disconnect the back-up light connector.
  40.  
  41. On the 4-wheel drive models, disconnect the transfer case indicator switch connector.
  42.  
  43. Disconnect the heater mode selector cable from the air damper and disconnect the air mix damper cable from the damper, if so equipped.
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the heater hoses, including the rear heater hoses if equipped with a rear heater system.
  46.  
  47. Disconnect the ground strap from the engine mounting. Remove the engine under cover. Disconnect the connector on the oil level sensor.
  48.  
  49. Disconnect the oil cooler lines on models equipped with automatic transmissions.
  50.  
  51. On 2-wheel drive models, remove the strut bar.
  52.  
  53. On 4-wheel drive models, remove the stabilizer bar.
  54.  
  55. Support the engine and transmission with an engine hoist and jacks.
  56.  
  57. On 2-wheel drive models with manual transmissions, remove the bolts holding the engine rear mounting bracket to the body.
  58.  
  59. On 2-wheel drive models equipped with automatic transmissions and 4-wheel drive models, remove the through bolts holding the engine mounting insulator to the transmission.
  60.  
  61. Remove the bolts and nuts holding the engine front member to the body.
  62.  
  63. On 4-wheel drive models, remove the bolts, nuts and front suspension rear crossmember.
  64.  
  65. Lower the engine and transmission. Remove the engine mounting member from the engine. Separate the engine and transmission.
  66.  

To install:

  1. Assemble the engine and the transmission assembly. Install the assembly in to the engine compartment.
  2.  
  3. Install the engine front member to the engine and tighten the bolts 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). Raise the engine and install the tighten the bolts and nuts holding the engine front mounting member to the body. The torque should be 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm).

  5. On 4-wheel drive models, install the front suspension rear crossmember with the bolts and nuts, torque them to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).

  7. On 2-wheel drive models with manual transmission, install the bolts holding the engine rear mounting bracket to the body. Tighten the nut to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  8.  
  9. On 2-wheel drive models equipped with automatic transmissions and 4-wheel drive models, install the bolt and nut holding the engine rear mounting insulator to the body. Tighten the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  10.  
  11. On the 2-wheel drive models, install the strut bar.
  12.  
  13. On the 4-wheel drive install the stabilizer bar assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install the oil cooler lines on the automatic transmission models.
  16.  
  17. Connect the connector of the oil level sensor.
  18.  
  19. Install the engine under cover. Connect the engine ground strap to the engine mounting.
  20.  
  21. Connect the heater outlet hose and the rear heater hoses, if so equipped.
  22.  
  23. Connect the heater air mix damper cable to the damper, if so equipped.
  24.  
  25. Connect the mode selector cable to the damper. Move the control lever back and fourth and check for stiffness and binding through full range of operation.
  26.  
  27. Connect the speedometer cable and ground cable. Connect the back-up light switch connector. On the 4-wheel drive models, connect the transfer indicator switch connector.

  29. Install the starter with its 2 bolts. Connect the 2 wires to the starter.
  30.  
  31. Install the front exhaust pipe. Install the transmission control selector and shift cable.
  32.  
  33. Install the clutch release cylinder. Install the driveshaft.
  34.  
  35. Lower the vehicle.
  36.  
  37. Install the compressor and tighten the 4 bolts. Install the drive belt and adjust the drive belt to obtain the proper tension.

  39. Connect the ECU connectors. Install the cover and the seat belt retractor. Install the center pillar garnish.
  40.  
  41. Install the fluid coupling with the fan assembly. Adjust the drive belt tension. Install the radiator assembly.

  43. Install the fan shroud assembly. Connect the following wires:

    The alternator connector and B terminal
     
    The air flow meter connector
     
    The solenoid resistor connector
     
    Water temperature sending unit connector
     
    The oil pressure switch connector
     
    The integrated ignition assembly connector
     
    The air conditioning compressor connector, if so equipped
     
    The air conditioning idle up solenoid connector, if so equipped
     
    The vacuum switching valve, if so equipped
     
    The coolant temperature switch

  45. Connect the accelerator cable and the throttle cable to the throttle body.

  47. Install the power steering pump assembly. Install the drive belt and adjust the belt tension.

  49. Connect the following hoses:

    Radiator inlet hoses
     
    Radiator breather hose
     
    Reservoir tank hose
     
    Heater outlet hose
     
    Radiator outlet hose
     
    Brake booster hose
     
    Fuel inlet hose
     
    Fuel outlet hose
     
    Charcoal canister hose

  51. Refill the coolant system with the proper coolant mixture.

  53. Refill the engine with clean fresh engine oil.
  54.  
  55. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for any leaks, repair as necessary.

  57. Make all necessary adjustments, such as idle speed and ignition timing.
  58.  
  59. Install the engine service hole cover. Install the right seat and then road test the vehicle to check that the vehicle is operating properly.
  60.  
  61. Shut down the engine and recheck the fluid levels once the engine has cooled down.
