  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Place a suitable container along with a shop towel under the cold start injector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the union bolt and two gaskets, then disconnect the injector tube.
  6.  
  7. Slowly loosen the union bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts retaining the cold start injector and gasket, then disconnect the cold start injector wiring.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Attach the cold start injector wiring.
  2.  
  3. Install new gaskets and injector. Tighten the mounting bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the injector tube to the delivery pipe and cold start injector with new gaskets and union bolts. Tighten the delivery bolt side to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) and the cold start injector side to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Check for fuel leaks.
  10.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unplug the cold start injector connector.
  4.  
  5. Place a suitable container or shop towel under the cold start injector pipe.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two union bolts, cold start injector and gaskets.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two bolts retaining the cold start injector and gasket.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the new gasket and cold start injector, tighten the mounting bolts to 52 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install new gaskets and reconnect the cold start injector pipe to the delivery pipe and cold start injector with the union bolts. Tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the cold start injector connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Check for fuel leakage.
  10.

  1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. Resistance should be 2-4 ohms.
  2.  


CAUTION
Keep clear of sparks during the test.

  1. To inspect the injection of the cold start injector.
  2.  
    1. Install the service tool (09268-41045 or equivalent) which are two unions to the injector and delivery pipe with new gaskets and the union bolts.
    2.  
    3. Connect the hose portion of the service tool to the unions.
    4.  
    5. Connect the service tool wire (09268-30050 or equivalent) to the injector.
    6.  
    7. Place a suitable container under the injector to catch any spilt fuel.
    8.  
    9. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
    10.  
    11. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. DO NOT start the engine.
    12.  
    13. Using tool 09843-18020 or equivalent, connect terminals B+ and FP of the check connector.
    14.  
    15. Connect the test probes of the tool to the battery, and check the fuel spray. This should be done in the shortest time possible.
    16.  

  3. Inspect the injector leakage:
  4.  
    1. In the condition above, disconnect the test probes of the service tool wire from the battery and check fuel leakage from the injector.
    2.  
    3. The fuel drop should be one drop per minute.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    6.  
    7. Remove the service tools and wire.
    8.

  1. To inspect the injection of the cold start injector:
  2.  
    1. Install the service tool (09268-41045 or equivalent) which are two unions to the injector and delivery pipe with new gaskets and the union bolts as illustrated.
    2.  
    3. Connect the hose portion of the service tool to the unions.
    4.  
    5. Connect the service tool wire (09268-30050 or equivalent) to the injector. Be sure to position the injector as far away from the battery as possible.
    6.  
    7. Place a suitable container under the injector to catch any spilt fuel.
    8.  
    9. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. DO NOT start the engine.
    10.  
    11. Attach the terminals of the fuel pump check connector with the service tool wire.
    12.  
    13. Attach the test probes of the service tool to the battery and check that the fuel spray is as illustrated. Perform this check within the shortest possible time.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the test probes from the battery and check the fuel drops one drop or less per minute from the injector nozzle.
    16.  
    17. After checking, restore the following parts to their original condition:

      Fuel pump check connector
       
      Ignition switch
       
      Service tools
       
      Cold start injector
       
      Injector wiring
