The shift lever is adjusted properly if the engine will not start in any position other than N or P .

  1. Loosen the neutral start switch bolt. Position the selector in the N position.
  2.  
  3. Align the switch shaft groove with the neutral base line which is located on the switch.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolt to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  6.  

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unplug the switch wiring connectors.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the transmission control cable from the manual shift lever.
  6.  
  7. Remove the manual shift lever.
  8.  
  9. Pry the C-washer from the manual shaft nut. Discard the washer and replace with new.
  10.  
  11. Remove the manual shaft nut and washer.
  12.  
  13. Remove the manual shaft lever packing, if so equipped.
  14.  
  15. Remove the retaining bolts and withdraw the switch from the transaxle case.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Adjust the switch.
