  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the console assembly.

  3. Place the shift lever in N .
  4.  
  5. Using a 0.24 in. (6mm) diameter guide pin, check that the guide pin inserts smoothly into the shift lever retainer hole and shift lever inspection hole.

  7. To adjust, loosen the adjusting locknuts and adjust the length of the select control cable so the guide pin inserts smoothly into the holes. Then tighten the locknuts and reinstall the console.

W-58 Transmission

All Toyota passenger cars equipped with floor mounted shifters have internally mounted shift linkage. On some older models, the linkage is contained in the side cover which is bolted on the transmission case. All of the other models have the linkage mounted inside the top of the transmission case, itself.

No external adjustments are needed or possible.
