  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drain plug and drain the differential oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear axle shaft assembly as outlined earlier in this section.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the driveshaft from the differential as outlined earlier in this section.
  8.  
  9. Remove the differential carrier assembly retaining bolts and remove the carrier assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse order of the removal procedure. Be sure to use a new gasket during the installation procedure and refill the differential with the proper amount of the gear oil.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drain plug and drain the differential oil.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect rear driveshafts.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the driveshaft flange from the companion flange.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cushion mounting bolt from the differential support member.
  10.  
  11. Jack up the differential with a transmission jack and remove the carrier bolts.
  12.  
  13. Lower the differential carrier on the jack. When lowering the carrier, be careful that the differential does not separate.
  14.  
  15. Installation is the reverse order of the removal procedure. Be sure to use a new gasket during the installation procedure. Tighten the carrier retaining bolts to 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm). Tighten the cushion mounting bolts to the differential support member to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm). Refill the differential with the proper amount of the gear oil.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drain plug and drain the differential oil.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect rear driveshafts.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the driveshaft flange from the companion flange.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cushion mounting bolt from the differential support member.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer bar link retaining nuts, stabilizer bar mounting bushing along with the bracket and stabilizer bar.
  12.  
  13. Jack up the differential with a transmission jack and remove the carrier bolts.
  14.  
  15. Lower the differential carrier on the jack. When lowering the carrier, be careful that the differential does not separate.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse order of the removal procedure. Be sure to use a new gasket during the installation procedure. Tighten the carrier retaining bolts to 71 ft. lbs. (96 Nm). Tighten the stabilizer bar link retaining nuts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm). Refill the differential with the proper amount of the gear oil.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the lubricant from the differential.
  2.  
  3. Remove the axle shafts from the axle housing.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark the driveshaft flange to the differential flange. Remove the mounting bolts and separate the driveshaft from the differential.
  6.  
  7. Remove the carrier retaining nuts and pull the carrier assembly out of the differential housing.
  8.  
  9. When installing, use new gaskets and reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the differential-to-axle nuts to 23 ft. lbs. and the driveshaft flange-to-differential flange nuts/bolts to 31 ft. lbs. Refill the axle with 80W-90 gear oil to a level of 1 / 4 in. (6mm) below the fill hole.

Before installing the carrier, apply a thin coat of silicone sealer to the carrier housing gasket and to the carrier side face of each carrier retaining nut.

FRONT

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the lubricant from the differential.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front axle shafts from the axle housing.
  4.  
  5. Matchmark the front driveshaft flange to the differential flange. Remove the mounting bolts and separate the driveshaft from the differential.
  6.  
  7. Remove the carrier retaining nuts and pull the carrier assembly out of the differential housing.
  8.  
  9. When installing, use new gaskets and reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the differential-to-axle nuts to 19 ft. lbs. and the front driveshaft flange-to-differential flange nuts/bolts to 54 ft. lbs. Refill the axle with 80W-90 gear oil to a level of 1 / 4 in. (6mm) below the fill hole.

Before installing the carrier, apply a thin coat of liquid or silicone sealer to the carrier housing gasket and to the carrier side face of each carrier retaining nut.
