SUSPENSION INSPECTION



Make the following checks and correct any problems:

  1. Check the tires for proper size, wear and proper inflation.
  2.  
  3. Check the front wheel bearings for looseness.
  4.  
  5. Check the wheel runout.

    Lateral runout for the Cressida: less than 1.2mm (0.047 in.).
     
    Lateral runout for the 1984-86 Van: 1.0mm (0.039 in.).
     
    Lateral runout for the 1987-89 Van: less than 1.2mm (0.047 in.).

  7. Check the front suspension for looseness.
  8.  
  9. Check the steering linkage for looseness.
  10.  
  11. Use the standard bounce test to check that the front shock absorbers work properly.
  12.  
  13. Measure the vehicle, if the height of the vehicle is not as specified, try to level it by shaking it up or down. If still not correct, check for bad springs and worn or loose suspension parts.

    1983-84 Cressida vehicle height-Sedan front: 240mm (9.45 in.)
     
    1983-84 Cressida vehicle height-Sedan rear: 260mm (10.24 in.)
     
    1983-84 Cressida vehicle height-Wagon front: 236mm (9.29 in.)
     
    1983-84 Cressida vehicle height-Wagon rear: 264mm (10.39 in.)
     
    1985-88 Cressida vehicle height-14 in. tires front: 224mm (8.82 in.)
     
    1985-88 Cressida vehicle height-14 in. tires rear: 246mm (9.69 in.)
     
    1985-88 Cressida vehicle height-15 in. tires front: 219mm (8.62 in.)
     
    1985-88 Cressida vehicle height-15 in. tires rear: 265mm (10.43 in.)
     
    1989-90 Cressida vehicle height-15 in. tires front: 231mm (9.09 in.)
     
    1989-90 Cressida vehicle height-15 in. tires front: 245mm (9.65 in.)
     
    1984-86 Van vehicle height-14 in. tires front: 243mm (9.57 in.)
     
    1984-86 Van vehicle height-14 in. tires rear: 267mm (10.51 in.)
     
    1987-89 Van vehicle height-14 in. tires front: 234mm (9.21 in.)
     
    1987-89 Van vehicle height-14 in. tires rear: 264mm (10.39 in) or 254mm (10.00 in) for the leaf spring type rear suspension

  15. When measuring the chassis ground clearance, measure from the ground to the center of the lower suspension arm from the mounting bolt.

CAMBER AND CASTER



The camber and caster is adjustable on all models, but should be perform only by qualified factory technicians who are familiar with alignment machines and their means of measuring degrees and inches.

TOE-IN



The toe-in adjustable on all models, but should be perform only by qualified factory technicians who are familiar with alignment machines and their means of measuring degrees and inches.
