If equipped with free-wheeling hubs, turn the hub control handle to the
Remove the hub cover bolts and pull off the cover.
If equipped with automatic locking hubs, remove the axle bolt with the washer.
Using snapring pliers, remove the snapring from the axle shaft.
Remove the hub body mounting nuts.
Remove the cone washers from the hub body mounting studs by tapping on the washer slits with a tapered punch.
Remove the hub body from the axle hub.
Apply multi-purpose grease to the inner hub splines.
To install, use new gaskets and reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the hub body-to-axle hub nuts to 23 ft. lbs., the plate washer/bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (auto. locking hub) and the hub cover-to-hub body bolts to 7 ft. lbs.
To install the snapring onto the axle shaft, install a bolt into the axle shaft, pull it out and install the snapring.
