  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the torsion bar spring.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cool air intake duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper control arm-to-upper ball joint nuts/bolts and separate the upper control arm from the ball joint.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper control arm-to-chassis bolts and the control arm from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the upper control arm-to-chassis bolts to 65 ft. lbs. (front) and 112 ft. lbs. (rear), then, the upper control arm-to-ball joint nuts/bolts to 22 ft. lbs. Check and/or adjust the front end alignment.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the torsion bar spring. Lower the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front-right seat and the console box. Disconnect the control and shift cables from the shift levers, then, remove the transmission/transfer shifting levers (with retainer).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the brake lever, then, remove the parking brake lever assembly from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the intermediate lever and remove it. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission and remove it.
  8.  
  9. Remove the seat floor panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fan shroud, the radiator mounting bolts/nuts and move it aside; do not drain the coolant. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the shock absorber-to-frame nuts and disconnect the shock absorber from the frame.
  14.  
  15. From the upper ball joint, remove the cotter pin and the nut. Using a ball joint removal tool, press the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper control arm-to-chassis bolts and the arm from the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the upper control arm-to-chassis bolts to 112 ft. lbs., the upper ball joint-to-steering knuckle nut to 83 ft. lbs.
