Crankshaft Damper (Balancer)

Removal & Installation



2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Hood
     
    Engine oil
     
    Right front wheel
     
    Right fender splash shield
     
    Right fender apron seal
     
    No.1 engine undercover
     
    Engine roll stopper and bracket
     
    Exhaust pipe
     
    Upper engine mount, right side
     
    Accessory drive belts
     
    Alternator
     
    Power steering pump
     

  8.  
  9. Set the No.1 piston at TDC compression.

    Crankshaft pulley
     

  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 125 ft. lbs. (169 Nm).

3.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    To extract the engine bracket and control rod, raise the engine slightly.



    Engine coolant reservoir tank and the alternator belt
     
    Right front wheel and the splash shield
     
    Power steering pump drive belt, by loosening both bolts
     
    Both ground wire connectors
     
    Right engine mounting stay
     
    Engine moving control rod and the No. 2 right engine mount bracket
     



    No. 2 alternator bracket
     
    Crankshaft pulley bolt, using a prybar and wrench or Crankshaft Pulley Holding tool 09213-54015 and Flange Holding tool 09330-00021
     
    Crankshaft pulley, using a puller
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Crankshaft pulley. Tighten the bolt to 159 ft. lbs. (215 Nm).
     
    No. 2 alternator bracket. Tighten the nut to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). Do not tighten the pivot bolt at this time.
     
    No. 2 right engine mounting bracket and the moving control rod
     
    Right engine mount stay
     
    Both ground wire connectors
     
    Drive belts by adjusting them
     
    Coolant reservoir
     
    Right front splash shield and wheel
     
    Negative battery cable

  3. Start the vehicle and check for any leaks.
  4.  
  5. Recheck the ignition timing.
  6.  

Hybrid
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine covers
     
    Right front wheel
     
    Fender splash shields
     
    Wiper arms
     
    Top cowl ventilator louver
     
    Wiper motor and linkage assembly
     
    Battery and battery tray
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Brake master cylinder reservoir and bracket
     
    Air cleaner bracket
     
    Engine moving control rod
     
    Right-hand engine mounting stay No. 2

  5. Use Special Tool 09213-54015 to hold the crankshaft pulley in order to loosen the pulley bolt.
  6.  
  7. Use Special Tool 09950-50013 to remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley, as follows:
    1. Align the keyway of the pulley with the key located on the crankshaft and slide the pulley into place.
    2.  
    3. Using Special Tool 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021, or equivalent, install the pulley bolt and tighten to 162 ft. lbs. (220 Nm).

  3. The remainder of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Observe the following torques:

    Right engine mount stay: 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Engine roll control rod: tighten first A, then B, and then C to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm). Torque D to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm)

  5. If necessary, perform the initialization procedure, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical System.
