Disassembly



  1. Remove the inner seal from the hub.
  2.  
  3. Remove the snap ring from the hub.
  4.  
  5. Mount the knuckle in a vise and, using a slidehammer, remove the hub from the knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the outer seal.
  8.  
  9. Using a press, the bearings and races can now be replaced.
  10.  
  11. Replace the snap ring and seals.
  12.  
  13. Press the knuckle onto the hub assembly.
  14.

  1. Remove the wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the hub nut.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper and suspend it out of the way.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake rotor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the tie rod end from the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the control arm from the ball joint.
  12.  
  13. Remove the halfshaft from the knuckle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the lower strut-to-knuckle bolts and remove the hub/knuckle assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the ball joint.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Install the ball joint. Torque to 91 ft. lbs. (123 Nm). Advance the nut as much as 60 degrees to align the cotter pin hole. Use a new cotter pin.
  2.  
  3. Attach the knuckle assembly to the strut. Torque to 170 ft. lbs. (230 Nm).
  4.  
  5. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Caliper support: 77 ft. lbs. (104 Nm)
     
    Hub nut: 217 ft. lbs. (294 Nm)
     
    Caliper pins: 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm) Rear Wheel Bearings
