Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Slide pin and caliper
     

  4.  
  5. If the caliper is being replaced, disconnect the brake line and plug both openings.
    NOTE
    Depending on the brake type, there may be either 1 or 2 sealing washers.

  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the slide pin to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm). If the brake hose was removed, torque the union bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).

  1. Disconnect the brake line from the caliper and plug it.
  2.  
  3. Remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. Lift off the caliper.
  6.  
  7. Remove the pads and anti-squeal shims.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wear indicators from each pad.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Grease the caliper slides and bolts with lithium grease or equivalent. Apply disc brake grease to the anti-squeal shims. Torque the caliper bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm); the brake line union bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).

Highlander Hybrid
  1. Disconnect the brake line from the caliper and plug it.
  2.  
  3. Remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. Lift off the caliper.
  6.  
  7. Remove the pads and anti-squeal shims.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wear indicators from each pad.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Grease the caliper slides and bolts with lithium grease or equivalent. Apply disc brake grease to the anti-squeal shims. Torque the caliper bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm); the brake line union bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
