Hybrid Rear Traction Motor

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the service plug grip, found underneath the Battery Service cover on the rear seat. Wait 5 minutes to discharge the high voltage capacitor.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Left-hand engine side cover
     
    No. 5 inverter bracket
     
    Power steering ECU
     
    Inverter reserve tank
     
    Power steering ECU bracket
     
    Inverter cover
     

  6.  
  7. Verify that the voltage of the W/ Converter Inverter assembly is 0 volts.
  8.  
  9. Install the inverter cover.
  10.  
  11. Drain the hybrid transaxle fluid.
  12.  
  13. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     
    Exhaust pipe assembly
     
    Hub nut
     
    Height control sensor, RX 400h only
     

  14.  
  15. Support the rear axle carrier with a suitable jack.
  16.  
  17. Separate the rear strut rod assembly from the knuckle
  18.  
  19. Separate the No. 1 and No. 2 rear suspension arm assemblies.
  20.  
  21. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear halfshafts
     
    Parking brake cable
     
    No. 3 wire frame
     
    Rear suspension member
     
    Rear traction motor assembly

To install:

  1. Install the rear traction motor assembly. If motor assembly was removed from the rear suspension member, tighten the mounting bolts as follows:
    1. Bolt A to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Bolt B to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).

  3. Slowly raise the rear suspension member into place. Tighten Nuts A to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm) and Nuts B to 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm).

  5. The remainder of installation is the reverse order of removal.
  6.  
  7. If necessary, perform the initialization procedure, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical System.
