Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Fender apron seal
     
    Transaxle fluid
     
    Transfer case oil (4wd)
     
    Hub nut
     
    Stabilizer bar link
     
    Speed sensor
     
    Tie rod end
     
    Lower arm from the ball joint

  5. Slide the halfshaft from the hub, then, carefully, pry the shaft from the transaxle.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the hub nut to 217 ft. lbs. (294 Nm).

Hybrid
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Engine splash shields
     
    Front wheels
     
    Cotter pin and hub nut
     
    Front speed sensor
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Brake disc
     
    Tie rod end, from the steering knuckle
     
    Steering knuckle, from the lower control arm
     
    Halfshaft from the axle hub, using a plastic hammer
     
    Stabilizer link
     
    Front strut
     

  4.  
  5. Using Special Tool 095020-01010, remove the halfshaft from the transaxle.

To install:

  1. Install a new halfshaft hole snapring.
  2.  
  3. Coat the splines of the inboard joint shaft assembly with ATF.
  4.  
  5. Align the shaft splines and install the halfshaft assembly with a brass drift and hammer.

    Fig. Insert a brass drift into the groove to install the halfshaft.

  7. The remainder of installation is the reverse order of removal.
  8.  
  9. Fill the transaxle with gear oil, install the fender apron, check front end alignment and test drive.
    NOTE
    If the cotter pin holes do not align, always correct by tightening the nut until the next hole aligns.

  11. Install a new cotter pin.
