Inspection



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil pump relief valve from its bore and coat it with clean engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Place the valve into its bore and let it fall into the bore smoothly under its own weight. If the valve does not fall smoothly into the bore replace the pump assembly.

  7. Place the pump rotors into the pump with the marks facing upwards.
  8.  
  9. Using a feeler gauge and a straight edge, measure the clearance between the rotors and the straight edge. The side clearance should be 0.0010-0.0028 in. (0.025-0.071 mm). The maximum clearance is 0.0028 in. (0.071mm). if the clearance is more than the maximum specified, replace the pump assembly.

  11. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the drive and driven pump rotors. The tip clearance should be 0.0019-0.0063 in. (0.040-0.160 mm). The maximum clearance is 0.0063 in. (0.160mm). if the clearance is more than the maximum specified, replace the rotors.

  13. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the driven rotors and body. The clearance should be 0.0102-0.0128 in. (0.260-0.325 mm). The maximum clearance is 0.0128 in. (0.325mm). if the clearance is more than the maximum specified, replace the pump assembly.

Removal & Installation



1ZZ-FE Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Timing chain and crankshaft sprocket
     
    Timing chain vibration damper
     
    Oil pump bolts, pump and gasket

To install:

  1. Clean the mounting surface.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump, with new gasket. Engage the spline teeth of the oil pump drive rotor with the larger teeth of the crankshaft, and slide the pump on.
     
    Oil pump bolts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
     
    Crankshaft vibration damper and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
     
    Crankshaft sprocket and timing chain
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Timing chain and crankshaft sprocket
     
    Timing chain vibration damper
     
    Oil pump bolts, pump and gasket

  6.  

To install:

  1. Clean the mounting surface.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump, with new gasket. Engage the spline teeth of the oil pump drive rotor with the larger teeth of the crankshaft, and slide the pump on.
     
    Oil pump bolts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
     
    Crankshaft vibration damper and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
     
    Crankshaft sprocket and timing chain
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  8.  

2zz-FE Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Timing chain and crankshaft sprocket
     
    Oil pump and gasket
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Clean the mounting surface.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump, with new gasket. Engage the spline teeth of the oil pump drive rotor with the larger teeth of the crankshaft, and slide the pump on.
     
    Oil pump bolts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
     
    Crankshaft sprocket and timing chain
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  8.  

2zz-Ge And 2zz-FE Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Timing chain and crankshaft sprocket
     
    Oil pump and gasket
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Clean the mounting surface.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pump, with new gasket. Engage the spline teeth of the oil pump drive rotor with the larger teeth of the crankshaft, and slide the pump on.
     
    Oil pump bolts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm)
     
    Crankshaft sprocket and timing chain
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  8.
