Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar links on both sides.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lower control arms from the steering knuckles.
  8.  
  9. Separate the power steering gear assembly.
  10.  
  11. Support the engine by using a suitable support assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the left hand crossmember subassembly with an A/T position as follows:
    1. On 24WD models, Remove the bolts and nuts, disconnect the transverse engine mounting insulator and engine mounting member subassembly center from the front suspension crossmember.
    2.  
    3. On 4WD models, remove the bolts and disconnect the stabilizer bar front from the front suspension crossmember subassembly.
    4.  
    5. On 4WD models, remove the bolt and nuts, disconnect the transverse engine mounting insulator and engine mounting member subassembly center from the front suspension crossmember subassembly.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 4 bolts.
    8.  
    9. Lower the transmission jack, remove the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly.

  15. Remove front suspension arm lower left hand subassembly as follows:
    1. Remove the bolts, nut and front suspension arm subassembly left hand lower No.1 from the front suspension crossmember subassembly.
    2.  
    3. Install the front suspension arm subassembly left hand lower No. 1 and temporarily tighten the bolts and nut.

  17. Remove the stabilizer bar bolts retaining the brackets and remove the brackets; bushings and stabilizer bar.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer bar with the bushing inner side stopper on the stabilizer bar as illustrated. Tighten the bracket bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).

  3. Install the left hand crossmember subassembly with an A/T position as follows:
    1. Raise the front suspension crossmember subassembly up with a transmission jack.
    2.  
    3. Insert SST 09670-00010 to the base hole of the right hand side crossmember and right side of the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Tighten the bolt temporarily in the order A and B as illustrated.
    6.  
    7. Insert SST 09670-00010 to the base hole of the left hand side of crossmember and left side of the vehicle.
    8.  
    9. Tighten the bolt temporarily in the order A and B as illustrated.
    10.  
    11. Insert SST 09670-00010 to the base hole of the right hand side of crossmember and right side of the vehicle.
    12.  
    13. Then tighten the bolt A to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm) and bolt B to 83 ft. lbs. (113 Nm).
    14.  
    15. Insert SST 09670-00010 to the base hole of the left side of crossmember and left side of the vehicle.

    17. Connect the transverse engine mounting insulator and engine mounting member subassembly center to the front suspension crossmember subassembly.

    19. On 2WD models, tighten the bolts and nuts to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
    20.  
    21. On 4WD models, install the bolt and 2 nuts and tighten to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).

  5. Install the power steering gear assembly and tighten the retainers to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm) on 2WD models or 94 ft. lbs. (127 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the brackets and bushings. Prior to installation, place the elastic bushings to the inside of the bushing on the stabilizer bar. Tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the lower control arms to the steering knuckles. Tighten the lower arm retainers to 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm) and the

  11. Install the stabilizer bar links and tighten the nuts to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the wheels and tighten to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Perform a wheel alignment check.
