See Figures 1 and 2
Removal of the intake manifold of the diesel engine requires removal of the air cleaner assembly, injection lines, and related hoses and brackets. If you are in doubt during the disconnection of any item, be sure to mark the item so that it may be properly reinstalled. Before installing the manifold, be sure to clean the cylinder head and manifold mating surfaces of the old gasket material, and use a new gasket when installing the manifold.
The exhaust manifold is retained to the cylinder head with eight fasteners. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold and remove these fasteners. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold and remove these fasteners to remove the exhaust manifold. On models with air conditioning, it may be necessary to remove the air conditioning compressor from the mounting bracket (without disconnecting the refrigerant lines) and tie the compressor out of the way. Also remove the compressor mounting bracket(s) if interference is encountered. Be sure that the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces are clean, and install a new exhaust manifold gasket during manifold installation.
Refer to the torque specifications listed at the beginning of this section to determine the required tightening torque of the fasteners, working from the center of the manifold to the ends in several steps.
