REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.

CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Unfasten the clamps and remove the upper and lower radiator hoses. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the oil cooler lines. On models with the 22R-TE, disconnect the No. 1 turbocharger water line.
  2.
  3. Detach the hood lock cable and remove the hood lock from the radiator upper support. On the Land Cruiser, remove the center grille support also
  4.

It will be necessary to remove the grille in order to gain access to the hood lock/radiator support assembly.

  1. Remove the fan shroud(s), if so equipped.
  2.
  3. On models equipped with a coolant recovery system, disconnect the hose form the thermal expansion tank and remove the tank from its bracket.
  4.
  5. Unbolt and remove the radiator upper support.
  6.
  7. Unfasten the bolts and remove the radiator.
  8.

CAUTION
Use care not to damage the radiator fins or the cooling fan.

To install:
  1. Install the radiator and tighten the mounting bolts.
  2.
  3. Install the fan shroud(s).
