Stabilizer Bar

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1979-88 Pick-Up-2WD
  1. Raise the truck and support it on safety stands. Remove the wheels.
  2.  
  3. Remove one torsion bar spring.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nuts and cushions at both sides of the stabilizer bar where it attaches to the control arms.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bushings and brackets where the bar mounts to the frame member. Remove the stabilizer bar.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Position the stabilizer bar and install the 2 center bushings and brackets to the frame. Finger tighten the bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the bar to the control arms on each side. Use new nuts and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Tighten the center bracket bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) and install the torsion bar.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheels and lower the truck.
  8.  

1970-85 Pick-Up-4WD and 1971-88 Land Cruiser
  1. Raise the truck and support it on safety stands. Remove the wheels.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nuts and cushions at both sides of the stabilizer bar where it attaches to the front axle housing.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 bushings and brackets where the bar mounts to the frame member. Remove the stabilizer bar.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Position the stabilizer bar and install the 2 center bushings and brackets to the frame. Finger tighten the bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the bar to the axle housing on each side. Use new nuts and tighten to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm) on the Pick-Up and 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm) on the Land Cruiser.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the center bracket bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) and install the torsion bar.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheels and lower the truck.
  8.  

1986-88 Pick-Up and 4Runner-4WD
  1. Raise the truck and support it on safety stands. Remove the wheels.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nuts, cushions and retainers at both sides of the stabilizer bar where it attaches to the lower control arm.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 bushings and brackets where the bar mounts to the frame member. Remove the stabilizer bar.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Position the stabilizer bar and install the 2 center bushings and brackets to the frame. Finger tighten the bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the bar to the control arm on each side. Use new nuts and tighten to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Tighten the center bracket bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) and install the torsion bar.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheels and lower the truck.
