REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Land Cruiser
1984-87
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the steering column cover.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the throttle cable from the pedal and retainer. Remove the set nut and cable.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the set screw on the choke knob and remove the knob. Remove the choke cable set nut and pull out the cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the hood lock release lever. Remove the fuel lid opener.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the instrument leads and then remove the 5 instrument cluster mounting screws and lift out the cluster finish panel with the combination meter attached.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect all electrical leads, remove the 9 mounting screws and lift out the instrument cluster center panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the heater control panel.
  16.  
  17. Remove the radio.
  18.  
  19. Remove the assist handle from the instrument panel.
  20.  
  21. Loosen the 3 mounting screws and the glove box door. Remove the glove box light and switch. Remove the door lock striker and remove the glove box.
  22.  
  23. Remove the speaker from the safety pad.
  24.  
  25. Remove both side defroster nozzles.
  26.  
  27. Remove the 4 nuts and 2 clips and lift out the safety pad.
  28.  
  29. Remove the fuse box.
  30.  
  31. Push the heater control panel into the instrument panel, disconnect any connectors, remove the 15 bolts and lift out the instrument panel.
  32.  

To install:
  1. Install the instrument panel assembly in the correct position.
  2.  
  3. Install all components in the reverse order of removal.
  4.  
  5. Check operation of all related items in the instrument panel assembly.
  6.  

1988
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the steering column cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the No. 2 side air duct nozzle and the No. 3 air duct.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the throttle cable from the pedal and retainer. Remove the set nut and cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the hood lock release lever. Remove the fuel lid opener.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect all electrical leads and remove the ash tray. Remove the 5 mounting screws and 2 clips and lift out the instrument cluster center panel.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the instrument leads and then remove the 7 instrument cluster mounting screws and lift out the cluster finish panel with the combination meter attached.
  14.  
  15. Remove the radio.
  16.  
  17. Loosen the 3 mounting screws and the glove box door. Remove the glove box light and switch. Remove the door lock striker and remove the glove box.
  18.  
  19. Remove the EFI computer.
  20.  
  21. Remove the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 side air ducts.
  22.  
  23. Remove the lower side defroster nozzle set screw and disconnect the hose.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 4 screws, 4 nuts and 2 clips and lift the safety pad out toward the rear.
  26.  
  27. Remove the heater control panel and the No. 2 air duct.
  28.  
  29. Remove the mirror control switch, rheostat and the 4wd control connectors.
  30.  
  31. Remove the fuse box.
  32.  
  33. Remove the 2 upper side mounting bolts on the steering column.
  34.  
  35. Loosen the 15 mounting bolts and remove the instrument panel toward the rear.
  36.  

To install:
  1. Install the instrument panel assembly in the correct position.
  2.  
  3. Install all components in the reverse order of removal.
  4.  
  5. Check operation of all related items in the instrument panel assembly.
  6.
