Lateral Control Rod

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Land Cruiser
  1. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt, nut and plate washer, then disconnect the lateral control rod.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt and lateral control rod from the axle housing.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Attach the bolt that connects the rod to the axle housing, tighten to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the bolt with washer and tighten the nut to the rod to 130 ft. lbs. (177 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle, then tighten the lug nuts.
  8.  
  9. Have the alignment checked at a reputable repair facility.
  10.  

4Runner
  1. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the right side shock absorber.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt, then disconnect the harness for the Load Sensing Proportioning and Bypass Valve (LSPBV).
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt, nut and plate washer, then disconnect the lateral control rod from the frame.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolt and lateral control rod from the axle housing side.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Attach the bolt that connects the rod to the axle housing, tighten to 64 ft. lbs. (86 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the bolt with washers, then tighten the rod to the frame side to 64 ft. lbs. (86 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the bolt, then connect the harness for the Load Sensing Proportioning and Bypass Valve (LSPBV). Tighten the bolt to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the right side shock absorber.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Have the alignment checked at a reputable repair facility.
  12.
