THROTTLE CABLE

Pick-Up and 4Runner
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.
  3. Push the accelerator to the floor and check that the throttle plate opens fully. If not, adjust the accelerator linkage so that it does.
  4.
  5. Push back the rubber boot from the throttle cable which runs down to the transmission. Loosen the throttle cable adjustment nuts so that the cable housing can be adjusted.
  6.
  7. Fully open the throttle by having an assistant press the accelerator all the way to the floor.
  8.
  9. Adjust the cable housing so that, with the throttle wide open, the distance between the end of the rubber boot and the cable stopper is 0-0.04 in. (0-1mm).
  10.
  11. Tighten the nuts and double check the adjustment. Install the rubber boot and the air cleaner.
  12.

Land Cruiser
A440F
  1. Inspect the throttle cable and its mounts. Neither the cable nor the mounts should be deformed or bent.
  2.
  3. With the throttle fully closed, measure the distance between the end of the boot and the stopper. The correct distance is 0.020-0.059 in. (0.5-1.5mm).
  4.
  5. Have an assistant open the throttle fully. Remeasure the distance. Correct distance is 1.26-1.34 in. (32-34mm).
  6.
  7. If distances are not correct, adjust the cable via the adjusting nuts at the bracket.
  8.

A442F AND A343F

  1. Inspect the throttle cable and its mounts. Neither the cable nor the mounts should be deformed or bent.
  2.
  3. With the throttle fully closed, measure the distance between the end of the boot and the stopper. Correct distance is 0-0.04 in. (0-1mm).
  4.
  5. If distances are not correct, adjust the cable via the adjusting nuts at the bracket.
  6.

SHIFT LEVER POSITION

  1. Loosen or disconnect the nut holding the horizontal shift rod to the bottom of the shift selector.
  2.
  3. Move the now loosened or removed rod downward or towards the back of the vehicle. This will cause the shift lever (on the transmission case) to move into approximately the 9 o'clock or horizontal position.
  4.
  5. On A43D, A44D and A340F transmissions, move the horizontal rod upwards or towards the front until the 3rd notch is engaged. This should put the transmission in N and bring the small arm at the transmission near the vertical position.
  6.
  7. For A340F, A340H, A440, A442F and A343F units, return or move the arm until the 2nd notch is engaged. This should put the transmission in N and bring the small arm at the transmission near the vertical position.
  8.
  9. Set the shift selector inside the vehicle to the N position.
  10.
  11. Have an assistant hold the shift selector lightly towards the R position. Reconnect and/or adjust the linkage to the lower part of the shift selector and tighten the bolts.
  12.
  13. Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifted from N into the D range and moves rearward when shifted into R .
  14.

TRANSFER CASE LINKAGE

This adjustment is only possible on the A340E and A340H transmissions.

  1. Shift the transfer case lever to the H2 position.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the No. 1 transfer case linkage from the cross shaft.
  4.
  5. Position the transfer case indicator switch to the H2 position.
  6.
  7. Connect the No. 1 transfer case linkage to the cross shaft.
  8.

TRANSFER POSITION SWITCH

This adjustment is only possible on the A340E and A340H transmissions.

  1. Loosen the transfer case position switch bolt and set the shift position to the L4 position.
  2.
  3. Unplug the electrical connector.
  4.
  5. Connect an ohmmeter between the terminals and adjust the switch so there is continuity.
  6.
  7. Connect the electrical lead and tighten the switch bolt to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  8.
  9. Check the idle speed.
  10.
