  4.
  5. Loosen the power steering pump drive pulley nut.
  6.
  7. Remove the fluid coupling with the fan and water pump pulley.
  8.
  9. Remove the power steering pump and the A/C compressor along with their brackets.
  10.
  11. Remove the power steering idler pulley and it's bracket.
  12.
  13. Remove the distributor.
  14.
  15. Remove the valve rocker shaft assembly.
  16.

  1. Remove the oil cooler pipe with the hose.
  2.
  3. Remove the timing gear cover and gasket.
  4.

To install:
  1. Clean all the gasket mating areas. With multi-purpose grease, install a new seal into the timing cover. A seal installer will be needed for this job such as 09223-50010.

Fig. Fig. 6: Use an appropriate sized driver to seat the seal

  1. There are three sizes of timing gear cover bolts. Apply adhesive to the two A bolts. Install a new gasket and then position the cover. Finger tighten all the bolts. Align the crankshaft pulley set key with the groove of the pulley; gently tap the pulley onto the crankshaft. Tighten the cover bolts marked A to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm); and the B and C to 43 inch lbs. (5 Nm).

  1. Tighten the pulley bolt to 253 ft. lbs. (343 Nm). Use of the counter-holding tool is required.
  2.
  3. Position the power steering pulley on the crankshaft and tighten the six bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  4.
  5. Insert the valve lifters into their bores and install the pushrod cover. Tighten the bolts to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm) Make sure the valve lifters are installed in the same order as they were taken out.
  6.
  7. Install the pushrods, rocker shaft assembly, and the valve cover.
  8.
  9. Install the distributor.
  10.
  11. Install the water pump pulley, fluid coupling and fan.
  12.
  13. Install the power steering pump idler pulley and bracket. Install the power steering pump and the A/C compressor. Adjust the belt tensions.
  14.
  15. Install the air cleaner assembly; connect and adjust the accelerator and throttle cables.
  16.
  17. Fill the engine with coolant. Connect the battery cables.
  18.
  19. Start the engine and check for leaks. Top off the coolant and engine oil if needed.
  20.
  21. Inspect the timing (7° BTDC at idle), and adjust if needed.
  22.
  23. Shut the engine OFF . Remove the valve cover and adjust the valves.
  24.
  25. Reinstall the valve cover and road test the vehicle. Check for any abnormal noise, shock, slippage and smooth operation.
