Fuel Pressure Regulator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



3VZ-E Engine

See Figures 1 through 7

  1. Label all hoses and wiring being removed.
  2.

  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect these cables:

    If equipped, cruise control and actuator cable with bracket
     
    Accelerator cable
     
    Throttle cables on automatic transmissions
     

  4.  
  5. Disconnect the air cleaner hose.
  6.  
  7. Unhook the vacuum sensing hose.
  8.  
  9. Place a suitable container or shop towel under the fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the regulator.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air intake chamber:
    1. Disconnect the throttle position sensor wiring.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the canister vacuum hose from the throttle body.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the PCV hose from the union bolt.
    6.  
    7. Remove the No. 4 water bypass hose from the union of the intake manifold.
    8.  
    9. Detach the No. 5 water bypass hose from the water bypass pipe.
    10.  
    11. Unhook the cold start injector connection.
    12.  
    13. Remove the union bolt, the 2 gaskets and the injector tube.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the gas filter.
    16.  
    17. Disconnect the EGR gas temperature sensor wiring.
    18.  
    19. Remove the intake chamber stay and throttle cable bracket.
    20.  
    21. Remove EGR valve with pipes and discard of the two gaskets.
    22.  
    23. Disconnect the No. 1 air hose from the PAIR reed valve.
    24.  
    25. Detach the 4 vacuum hoses from the air pipes.
    26.  
    27. Remove the bolts securing the accelerator cable, then remove the cable.
    28.  
    29. Unbolt the intake chamber and discard of the gasket.

  1. Loosen the locknut, then remove the fuel pressure regulator.

To install:
  1. Fully loosen the locknut of the pressure regulator, then apply a light coat of gasoline to the new O-ring. Install; the O-ring onto the regulator.

  1. Thrust the fuel pressure regulator completely into the the delivery pipe by hand.

  1. Turn the regulator counterclockwise until the outlet faces in the direction indicated.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the locknut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the intake chamber, position a new gasket on the intake manifold.
  6.  
  7. Attach the intake chamber and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the accelerator cable bracket and tighten the two bolts.
  10.  
  11. Connect the vacuum hoses to the air pipes.
  12.

  1. Connect the No. 1 air hose to the reed valve.
  2.  
  3. Position 2 new gaskets to the intake chamber and the right-hand exhaust manifold.
    1. Install the EGR valve with the pipes to the intake chamber and the right-hand exhaust manifold.
    2.  
    3. Install the air intake chamber stay and throttle cable bracket. Tighten the nuts and bolts A: 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) and B:13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the EGR hoses to the air pipe and the EGR vacuum modulator.
    6.  
    7. Attach the EGR gas temperature wiring.
    8.  
    9. Connect the vacuum hose to the gas filter.
    10.  
    11. Connect the cold start injector wiring.
    12.  
    13. Install the No. 5 bypass hose to the water bypass hose.
    14.  
    15. Connect the No. 4 water bypass hose to the union of the intake manifold.
    16.  
    17. Connect the PCV hose to the union.
    18.  
    19. Attach the canister vacuum hose to the throttle body.
    20.  
    21. Attach the throttle position sensor wiring.
    22.

  5. Connect the fuel return hose.
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum sensing hose.
  8.  
  9. Attach the air cleaner hose.
  10.  
  11. Connect theses cables:

    On models with cruise control, the actuator cable with bracket
     
    Accelerator cable
     
    Throttle cables on automatic transmissions

  1. To check for fuel leakage do the following:
    1. With the ignition switch in the ON position, use a special service tool 09843-18020 or its equivalent to connect the terminals of the FP and +B of the DLC1.
    2.  
    3. Check for a fuel leakage.
    4.  
    5. Remove the special service tool from the DLC1.
    6.

22R-E Engines

See Figures 8, 9 and 10

  1. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose.
  2.  
  3. Remove the No. 1 EGR pipe.
  4.  
  5. Using a suitable container and shop towel, place them under the regulator. Slowly remove the fuel hose to the regulator.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the locknut, then remove the regulator.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Install the regulator, tighten the locknut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the fuel hose.
  4.  
  5. Using a new gasket, attach the No. 1 EGR pipe.
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum sensing hose.
  8.  
  9. Check for any fuel leakage.
  10.  

3F-E Engine

See Figures 10, 11, 12 and 13

  1. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose.
  2.  
  3. Place a suitable container and shop towel under the regulator. Slowly remove the union bolt and discard the gaskets, then disconnect the return pipe.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolts retaining the regulator, then pull out the unit.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Apply a light coat of gasoline to a new O-ring, then install it onto the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Attach the pressure regulator to the engine, and tighten the bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Using new gaskets, install the return pipe then the union bolt, tighten to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum sensing hose.
  8.  
  9. Check for any fuel leakage.
  10.  

2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE Engines

See Figures 14 and 15

  1. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the pressure regulator.
  2.  
  3. Place a suitable container and shop towel under the regulator, then disconnect the return pipe.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two mounting bolts retaining the regulator to the engine. Discard of the O-ring.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Apply a light coat of gasoline to a new O-ring, then install it onto the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Attach the pressure regulator to the engine, tighten the bolts to 78 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the return pipe to the regulator.
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum sensing hose.
  8.  
  9. Check for any fuel leakage.
  10.
